The trailer for the first episode came as a huge relief: the novel has some rather intense scenes—after all, the theme of death lends itself to that and to plenty of subtle irony—but I was afraid the adaptation would be more "toned down." Instead, the first image Duan Xu has of He Simu is exactly what I was hoping for: her, surrounded by corpses and holding a severed head. Spectacular!
After watching the trailers for the other episodes, I have some doubts about certain passages—in my mind they were amusing but never comedic. We’ll see...
Did anybody read the novel? Is it good? How is the overall story? Happy ending?
The novel is very - very, very - good. Two strong, sassy and badass main leads. The plot has a good rhytm, intriguing, and with funny irony between them. And yes, with happy ending.
It's not a problem. Everyone is free to say what they think, as long as they respect others. Doing so in spaces meant for something else is certainly not elegant, but it's not forbidden either. Just like discrediting one thing to promote another: it's a low move, but not a crime. The solution is simple: just ignore them.

I also immediately thought of Ning Que in Ever Night. Of all the roles Chen Fei Yu played, he's definitely the one with the most in common with Duan Xu: sassy, , badass, cunning, skilled in combat, and prone to laughing and smiling (and in the novel, Duan Xu laughs and smiles a lot). Ning Que, however, was a solitary character (in this respect more similar to Lin Xu or Sima Jiao), while Duan Xu is a general, thus in charge of an entire army: an aspect that will show us a CFY we've never seen before, and I'm really curious...

Having read the novel, I have to say this trailer leaves me truly perplexed: - I found it chaotic, with a rapid-fire display of special effects that only create confusion, rather than capture attention. - An excessive focus on what appears to be a love triangle (I won't go into details to avoid spoilers, but it seemed really unnecessary, except to highlight an actor—Miles Wei—who usually plays the role of ML). If I hadn't read the novel, I really wouldn't know what to expect. Or rather, I probably would have had a completely different idea. I much preferred the video that has been circulating in recent weeks.
In any case, this disappointing trailer only increases my concerns about the drama's quality. I have no complaints about the acting; I'm confident in the lead actors' talent, but I have serious doubts about the screenplay: I hope they simply followed the novel faithfully, which doesn't need any revisions. The novel's unusual context and characterization of the protagonists make their interactions full of amusing irony—of which I didn't see the slightest trace in the trailer—which I believe is the pairing's distinctive and original quality. If they don't stay true to this, the protagonists' characterizations will be distorted, and the novel will become a banal story like a thousand others.
Another concern is the release date: I'm happy it's close, but given the significant impact of "Pursuit of Jade," I wouldn't have overlapped the two dramas, running the risk of the opening of "Love Beyond the Grave" being subdued, as—rightly—many will be captivated by the final episodes of the other drama.
