Script writer Jang Hyun is a South Korean woman, who would understand South Korean women than her. The writer wants to make Mi Seon stood up for herself because this is how all South Korean women do in the working force.
She doesn't write the female lead as a woman who needs a man in shining armor because this can only leads to office gossips and rumors of female incompetency back up by higher ups. She wants her female character prove herself without male lead. She knows a man can't solve these issues ,only a woman can.

A few said oppa fans were protecting the male lead character. Not everyone here on this page is a oppa fan. This is for sure. A lot of them are normal drama viewers who happen to have a different opinion from you. Another one, if Taepoong plays a Knight. oppa fans are the first ones who should be celebrated first. Oppa is so Cool>> Female viewers swoon >> Actor get more fans. For not writing the male lead as a crazy cool knight character, oppa fangirls should be the one who should be mad at the writer.
The writer created her female lead character as an independent woman who wanted to stand up for herself which was quite appropriate for a woman of her position (younger female staff who hadn't got widespread recognition & wouldn't like to be centre of office gossip) that time . So the female lead character rejected the male lead character's help in this drama. Some are standing with the writer's vision and trying to explain that in possible ways.

For Korean females, it is the reality they are facing at their workplace everyday. It is a Korean drama ,so the reality is close to the issues South Korean women are facing everyday. The issue still exists today, you can imagine how much it could be worse in 1990 .
Before the drama, our female writer Jang Hyun interviewed the survivors of IMF how IMF affected their daily lives to bring complete perfection of the era . As a South Korean woman, she,herself must face these issues in the working industry. 'A woman doesn't to prove herself better than men.It isn't necessary' .It is international audience perception . But maybe it isn't like that in South Korea. A woman has to prove herself so that she can be treated equally as men at their workplace.

Inferiority complex is a really complex thing. Not this drama but in 'You & everything else' , Sang Yeon is always jealous of Eun Jung though she has everything. She thinks her mom & her brother love her friend EJ more than her because of EJ cheerful personally which she will never have. There is a history in our country. One medical student throw acid towards her schoolmate because that one was the most beautiful girl & always got the good grades.
Jealousy always is used as a plot device in dramas. And jealousy can make people do crazy things outside of dramaworld,too.
At this point, everyone is like they would rather take PHJ story over GMJ's. Relax. The story is coming of age story in business world. Each & every character needs to grow up in a tight & ever changing era. At the end of the story. every character will have a development . Hardships & struggles of main characters make you bit stressed out, but in the end .happiness will be worth it. The writer & directors purposely chose this era to create a deep story about human developments. It won't be a happy go lucky drama like ml previous drama,ktl . These kind of stories are for those who loves stress free zone. But this story chooses not to be like that.
Lee Junho becomes one of the most trustworthy actors of his generation. Praying the rating hit 10% [ TRS 17.6% , KTL 13 %]. It will be his 3rd conseutive drama that passes 10% viewership. Historical romantic melodrama , Romantic Comedy, and even with less popular genre, a business drama, he has his audience. Kim Minha is a a fresh face to broad international audience .(Her 1st time on Netflix) ,but the lady is talented. She has already won Best New Actress at Blue Dragon award (WBL) & Best Actress at SDA.(Pachinko S2 ). She is so lovely as Mi Seon in Typhoon Family. Both of them make a great couple albeit the romance is slow burn in business centric coming of age drama.

Why Taepoong doesn't resolve the issue between Mi Seon & Ma Jin
There are some things employees need to resolve themselves without involving the CEO. Taepoong did get involved by talking on behalf of Mi Seon ,but when he was overly involved , Mi Seon became uncomfortable because Ma Jin accused Mi Seon of being like this because the CEO took her side. And Majin doesn't know Tae poong likes her yet. Taepoong did remind him that she was a senior staff now, but he didn't put it in his mind. If Taepoong overprotected her, she will be looked down more by taking advantage of her closeness to CEO in their absence.
This will only be resolved when Mi Seon proved her value to Ma Jin. In front of her room, it was Mi Seon who asked Taepoong not to give her special treatment. Isn't it better to believe in your girl she will resolve this by believing in herself & prove her value?. And encouraged her by saying 'He trusts her value'.
I think the incident happened onscreen to teach Ma Jin a lesson or two, so I don't worry too much. Mi Seon has evidence, things will be resolved. This is a drama so he will change later. But if it is a real scenario, sexism is never going to change
