I was like, wait a minute I've only ever really seen him in iQIYI dramas and Mango TV. Had to keep scrolling to 2021 Flourish in Time to find his last Tencent drama. Since his first drama was a Tencent drama I hope this one goes well.

We are wrapping up a lot of arcs by episode 23, so going forward we are going to be seeing more peoples' involvement with the overall conspiracy. We'll see what once were tertiary characters moving into secondary character position. As those who were taking up side-plot showtime are now no longer relevant we have new players coming on the stage.

Dou Zhao's mother asked her husband to check on her friend. Zhao's father got ill while studying for the exams and the stepmother was the one who took care of him. Because the family was not in favor they didn't have the same amount of staff/servants that they once had.

At this time she was still trying to not overly interfere as she possibly wouldn't seem sane. Also she did try to stop him from entering a trap, I'm not sure she was yet aware that his mother had died. Mister Chen reported the changing of staff and that it seemed odd, and she put two and two together. She knows from experience that just because you try and stop something doesn't mean the person will live. Like with her own mother. She doesn't know enough to really meddle in the family of a Duke. He was also doing something important that she didn't want to pull him from too early. It was the right choice as the mother was already "dead" by the time her husband started to tie up loose ends by slowly offing the mother's servants one by one. We've found out what the combo was that killed the mother, but they haven't mentioned if it would have been reversable or not.
I think the director messed up because they wanted a cool close up of her feet, but with the arial shot they didn't…
Oh I watched that scene multiple times questioning the cinematographer and director. I think we forget that this is at it's core an MBC drama. I'm not expecting Oscar level technical skills her, hut I was hoping for a bit more attention to all aspects of the shoot, not just the romantic/tension building scenes. Cause those are great and detailed...I don't know if it's because they aren't able to take their time as they are outside or what, but yeah the difference was noticed and noted.
