I love VIKI for their HD and TV and app watching....but dear lord give me back the 2x speed button, and the can watch while it's still being subbed feature. Since they went full corporate they've changed how and when they release episodes. I remember the good old days of 1% subbed HD video.
I have to admit that I have been watching the scenes that don't have CXZ or LMT in them at 2x the speed for the most part. I want to make sure I'm not missing any context, but I want to get back to the main couple quickly.

He began to play with her like they used to as Lu Wen and Lord Huaiyang, but this time it was teasing and less stakes. She likes the mental sparring that they have. She tests him over and over and over until she's satisfied with his true character. This is over weeks/months. The show makes it seem much faster than it actual is.

In very basic dumbed down modern version that someone thought me...Think of the Emperor as the CEO of a company and the Lords as a regional managers, governors as general managers of a specific store and the other officials under governors as senior assistant managers and assistant managers. Officials in the emperor's court would be members of the board who make larger decisions for the whole company(country).
Cui Xing Zhou's mother was the first wife(princess) to the former Lord Huaiyang(prince) aka CXZ's father. His father had many concubines...CXZ is the ONLY child that was born from the princess aka lawful wife. He is the only one who could inherit the Lord title from his father. His father got the Lord Huaiyang title after ending hardships in that area during the reign of a previous emperor. Though they might be distantly related it's not as close a relation as Prince Sui, who I believe was the uncle of the child emperor.
The emperor fears any Lord who is more popular than them because of the armies that they command and the people that they protect. Get enough power behind a Lord and he could change the Emperor for the next in line. Which is exactly what ZiYu did to get back on the thrown after his father(former crown prince) was killed when the Empress Dowager came into the picture and gave birth to a son.

As he had joined forces with Prince Sui he excepted his adoptive daughter Yun'er as one of his people aka she was going to be on the wife roster. Lui Mian Tang was and has always been against plural marriage. Aka she will not be sharing her husband with ANYONE, no matter what HER rank is. She would rather be alone forever than marry a man who would take a concubine or make her a concubine.
CXZ realized that he not only loved her as Lui Mian Tang, but respected her as Lu Wen and found his equal. That's exactly what LMT wants in a marriage, an equal. The fact that he repeatedly got himself out of marriages assigned to him by authority figures(his mother/Grand Empress Dowager) to be with HER also adds points to his favor. He listens to her ideas and takes her into consideration before doing anything now. They play chess(go) as Lu Wen and Lord Huaiyang(war) and as Lui Mian Tang and Cui Xing Zhou(teasing)...the back and forth that confused the heck out of the other Lords. They understand each other in a way that others never will. She spent less then a year with CXZ and he knows her....she spent almost 3 with YZ and it's like he doesn't know her at all.
Emperor petty as hell. He about to show his a** when he sends that decree. I just know it's coming in the next episode. (About to check the teasers for tomorrow)
As we approach the end of this drama, the more i like Ziyu and Xueji’s scene 😩❤️ she’s sooo precious!!

I now understand what people mean by the subtitles being unhinged. Up to episode 3 it was subbed by a human. But 4-6 as of now are only Machine subbed and dear lord....not good. Even my very limited Mandarin understanding is helping to fill in the translation better in my head than the subtitles. But the second something is said under someone's breath...I'm lost.
I'm enjoying the show, but looks like this is going to have to be a wait til the weekend to watch all the episodes that came out instead of watching daily. Which is unfortunate as I was looking forward to episodes 4-8 after work tonight. Oh well. Mango...people hire humans...the international audience is begging you.

are the subs bad on mango or something. I'm watching on a different site and haven't seen anything supper wrong or annoying. But I'm not good at Mandarin so for all I know it's bs. But the English sentences are making grammatical sense.

Honestly it's a bit vague there for a while. The loaded conversations with double meanings. From 21-23 he is uncovering that she has her memories back. They part ways in episode 23. He wanted her to stay even after knowing she was the real Lu Wen. But she stabs him with a hair pin and he cleans it and puts in back in her hair....intense.
The characters together mean 'Willow Boat' I think based off of translation. But like the other's said it's the last characters of the ML and FL's names Be interested to know if the Willow portion comes from her name. Willows bend, but don't break and can withstand harsh storms. So it would be cool if it's associated with her.

There are so many puns and visual jokes getting lost in translation with this one. The green leaf falling on his head while he watches FL talk with his cousin and the painter. I couldn't stop laughing. I wish they would include translator notes in their translations, but that's not as common anymore.
Can someone tell me when the ML falls for the FL and if there is anyone interested in our ML and FL?

ML is engaged to his maternal cousin, who does want to marry him. ML does not want to marry her, but is willing to because before meeting the FL he honestly didn't care about marriage/love. He thought of marriage as a duty and nothing more. He finds her annoying.
Second FL (He Zhen), has had a crush on ML since he saved her years prior from kidnappers. ML barely knew of her existence, and does not hold any feelings for her. (His paternal cousin, the "doctor" falls in love with He Zhen)
ML is "gifted" a betrothal to a princess by the Grand Empress Dowager(Zi Yu's great grandmother) in episode 28....tbd on where this is going...nowhere hopefully as ML has sworn multiple times that he will never marry anyone but FL in his life. If she will not marry him, he will not marry...ever.
FL was very close with Zi Yu and Zi Yu "loves" her. He knew how she feels about monogamy and betrayed her anyway. (either on purpose or accident yet to be decided) But homie knew he was going to be Emperor soooooo.....monogamy is kind of a no go for that title. I think FL at one point had feelings for him before she knew who he was related to.
