Yes, I do think both characters are flawed. Neither Flora nor Luan Nian is perfect, and honestly, neither of them is a complete green flag.
I think the reason so many people see Flora as a red flag in the drama is because the production toned down Luan Nian’s character SO much that he comes across as almost a green flag, while Flora’s character from the novel was retained more closely.
If you’ve actually read the novel, I don’t think you’d simply call Flora a red flag. You’d understand why she slowly distanced herself throughout their relationship, how exhausted she became, and why she eventually reached the point where she just couldn’t keep going the way they were. There’s so much more to her than just “she pushed him away” or “she didn’t appreciate him.”
And I already know some people are going to say, “Don’t associate the novel with the drama!” or “Oh, you act like you know everything!” 😂 But I said what I said.
Because the problem is that they retained so much of Flora’s flaws and struggles from the novel, while changing Luan Nian enough that his flaws don’t come across the same way. So of course, within the drama alone, Flora is going to look like the red flag while Luan Nian looks like the green/red flag.
But if you read the novel and understand BOTH sides of their relationship, the whole dynamic makes so much more sense. Neither of them was perfect. They both hurt each other, they both had their own flaws, and they both had growing to do. That’s exactly what makes their story so interesting to me.
I know many are worried that the reconciliation episodes might feel rushed with only 4 episodes left, but honestly, I’m choosing to put my trust in the production team. 😭
The Harbin/Breakup/Reconciliation Arc only spans around 20 chapters in a 134-chapter novel, so I don’t think we need to panic just yet. There’s still enough room for the story to breathe and, hopefully, for them to properly explore everything these two have been through.
Because their reconciliation isn’t just about getting back together. It’s the years of separation, the yearning, the regrets, the things they never got to say, and that love that somehow remained even after all those years apart. I really hope the drama can capture the *depth* of those emotions between Luan Nian and Tao Tao and let us truly feel what it means for them to find their way back to each other. 🥹

And the Harbin Arc in the novel… genuinely one of the most beautifully written parts. It wasn’t just about Luan Nian finding his way back to Tao Tao, but about how much he had changed along the way. It showed his growth, his regrets, his love, and the realization that some people can leave your life for a while, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the love disappears. Though there's only 4 episodes left, I think the drama will try its best to portray these, after all there was only around 20 chapters of the Harbin Arc out of 134 chapters.

The actual scene was longer, but it was something along those lines. It was honestly so heart-wrenching 😭 And it actually became one of the reasons why Zhi Tao wanted to reconcile with Luke and started appreciating him more. What makes it even more emotional is that Luke’s friend actually sent that recording to Zhi Tao while they were in the process of reconciling. 😭 Like imagine finding out that the person you love was standing under the aurora, thinking about you and crying because you weren’t there… hehe.

Nope, even in the novel they didn't said they love each other but they know they love each other lol, its more like they're afraid of saying that for fear of rejection (Flora) and won't admit such feelings (Luke). The first time Luke admitted his feelings was I think cmiiw was during the aurora scene (after their breakup) where he tearfully said, "...know this, I have always loved you." something like that :)
