I was having look at Jaywalk's investment portfolio for dramas and the last time they invested in a Baba drama was in 2020's Eternal Love of Dream. Does that mean the dramas after 2020, were mainly Baba's own resources and or just cost-cutting by relying on bigger platforms? (smart choice and good risk management).
But it feels like not only have they taken a passive management style with their top talent, it seems they've done it with majority of their roster. I've also noticed that Jaywalk's roster has been cut in half. When they launched, they were touted to have some of the best new talent and they were EVERYWHERE! That page with their talents had 3 pages at one point and now it has only one. Baba's clearly outgrown them but the question is, will she leave this year because her personal agency has been doing the bulk of the work? Idk guys, just some thoughts.
It's recent dramas are:
Amidst a Snowstorm of Love (2024) Leo Wu, Zhao Jin Mai Are You the One (2024) Zhang Wanyi, Wang Churan Sniper Butterful (unreleased) starring Michelle Chen, Zhou Keyu Miss Chun Is a Litigator (2023) Sabrina Zhang, Huang Jun Jie
Alice is against it. It is so short only six episodes. I hope it not true
The short dramas are part of iQIYI’s new strategic initiative to diversify content formats and capture changing viewer habits. These mini-dramas typically running 6 to 8 eps and are designed to offer high-quality storytelling in a compact, bingeable format. The ep length will probs be no different from normal episode length. I believe Zhao Liying recently did one for them so the pull to big stars is definitely there.
