I like this couple in drama. It's not heavily focused on romance but rather on their growth. This got real angsty after e29 with little to no light hearted moments. For me, they were still for each other till e31. But the angst got out of hand at end of e31 and at beginning of e32. But it got resloved by the end e32. Overall, this couple were for each other loved each other and supported each other. E34 to E36 were good. 👌

I agree with all your complaints. I had the same feeling. They changed too much of the original story, that they created plot holes.
I wish they gave A-Sen what was in the novel. Commander Wang accepted A-Sen, because he was raised by FTY and ZL and had become Zhao Sen aka second young master Zhao, and he also had achievements. He passed exams successfully and became a scholar and everytime he passed an exam, Zhao family would throw a party for him. Another reason was that Commander Wang wanted a live-in son-in-law because he only had daughters and no sons.
So as long as someone is useful to the emperor he will let them live, ZL got a tonic instead of poison because…
His case was different from Mo Yi's. Mo Yi was convicted and there was that evidence that Mo Yi himself had signed before. And the merchants were giving the emperor headache... I saw a comment before explaining this.
For ZL, even Yu family were astonished that "what? he's dead? that easy?" Because he was still under investigation.
In ZL case, he wasn't executed because he has not been convicted yet. They said "he took his own life in the imperial prison". So before he's convicted, he's out to amend the situation.
Also there is the matter of usefulness to the emperor too.
Well damn at the beginning of episode 32 FTY is about ready to end their marriage because she regrets seeking…
She loved him but... that line was really unnecessary and out of character... It put me off too... No matter how anyone defend it, it doesn't change the fact that the line was pointless... If she really cared for him, after seeing his expression and posture after saying that word to him, she could have run after him saying she didn't mean it. I felt sorry for ZL.... It was really badly written....
