I totally agreed with you about MingSheng’s choices. Thought they should just let him continue his medical career. Their reconcilation is much more realistic. Guess they wanted more dramatic effect for the drama.

This is not an ordinary youth romance drama, instead it focus on difficult themes such as death, suicide, family secrets, mental health issues, gender biases, bullying, how Chinese family old patriarch system can cause so much emotional pain in their children.
What I love: - The overall story telling and the revelation of Qiao BeiYu’s death and how the family cope. -the beautiful symbolic scenes and interaction between BeiYu and QingYu. How QY decides to fulfill her sister’s dream to go for the dance competition. -the family arc is heartbreaking and yet heartwarming at the end. I admired FL’s strength, courage and growth. Such family practices there will always be victims and those who carry on the unhealthy practices (the uncles and aunties). Kudos to Liu Dan’s acting as the mother, such phenomenal performances. -the interaction and dynamic between QingYu and other students. The sisterly relationship between QY and MuMu -the innocent pure youth romance between leads and also between JinRui and BeiYu. JinRui is a coward and selfish but in this story, it truly portray how he also does love BeiYu at one point. However he also a victim and suffered from the situation. I don’t think he will ever forgive himself. It’s sweet that they gave us a carefree date and final meet up and kiss. Without much words, we know they both love and care for each other but MingSheng is mature and sensitive enough to understands QY’s burden hence he choose to believe in her and wait for her. Like how their love is shown through action and not need to tell explicitly. The only part was MingSheng confronting the thugs, he could have died, such impulsive move and risk, if anything major happened to him, it would be another trauma for QY. However that behaviour was also expected as he is after all still a teen.
What I wish they include from novel: -although I totally understand why the drama developed the dance interest in QY, as thats her connection with her sister and also with MingSheng. As someone who writes, I do wish they kept FL’s good writing skills and her calligraphy skills. -this drama didnt develop MS’s arc, they only address hus relationship with parents but didn’t follow through about his career. In the novel, MS continues his studies in medicine. The beach reconcilation scene is dramatic and romantic, however I would have prefer they reconcile again when they both in their journey as adult fulfilling their dreams. I wish they gave us the epilogue chapters of their adult children, their bookshops and mental health Counselling service for youth.

It is slightly different from the novel, but I love them both equally. The drama gave me a different feel, left me with more intense and emotionally charged compared to the novel. And I end what longing for more and do wish to see more of this couple. But I understand that this team took this approach as to stay true to their theme they want to emphasize on QingYu’s growth arc and her choices she made.

I agreed 💯 on the view about Ming Sheng as a character, what he would have done. I thought the cry was uncharacter of him. And thought it feels out of place. But it is also a very good moment where we get to see Zhou YiRan’s acting, and I accepted that scene as I was very touch by his crying.

He heard from his father that BeiYu was treated for her appendicitis, so he knew that didnt kill her, his father is the surgeon, but I don’t think he know why BeiYu died. BeiYu was very popular dancer in the school where his mother use to work as piano teacher. He visited his mom and saw QingYu. Then BeiYu’s story was a spread in the school, it’s not difficult to find out. In the novel, he actually ever saw QingYu in another context but not mentioned here. So they just created the dance school meeting scene. And about him not helping, it’s not his position to do so esp when QingYu alread asked him to leave her alone.
