I'm enjoying this one so far, I just wished the Second couple story wasn't this slow. The story could have been…
It picks up quite a bit later in. And worth waiting for, IMO. :)

Quick question : does anyone knows at which age people turn adult in China?
Depends on the year. Nowadays, age 18 like most everywhere in the west. For most of Chinese known history though, men were adults at age 20, and had all the rights with that given to them, and women at age 15.

They had to go through a ceremony first, though, as if they didn't they weren't legally classified as adult.

They also got married much younger -- age 15 or 16 for girls was pretty normal and early 20s for men.

If I remember correctly, a woman was known to be an adult when she was wearing her hair up and was wearing a hairpin. As young girls didn't wear them.

I thought people like such drama where leads explore new story in every episode. Or is it low rated because it's…
It's because anything that requires thinking is beyond a substantial percentage of viewers using MDL.

You'd be better ignoring any MDL rating -- good or bad. The site isn't remotely reputable when it comes to its ratings.

I really like this drama and I look forward to every next episode. The story is interesting and it's funny. I…
Exactly. I've just finished Episode 20, and have not been bored for one second. For someone who has the attention span of a flea, that is a HUGE achievement :)

But I'm loving everything about this -- the characters, the writing, the story, the sets are gorgeous, the music, the action, the costumes, the mythology, even the villains (all nicely acted and interesting motivations) -- it's all just wonderful.

Along with Guardians of Dafeng, this is my favorite Cdrama of the year so far.

Sorry to disappoint you :), but I disagree with you massively on Trump, and yep I voted for him as did almost everyone I know, including my now-former Democrat parents and sister. (Was a Democrat myself for decades until 3 years ago, when the party went extreme-left-wing batshit crazy and, er, no).

And I loved being back in the U.S. last month -- the atmosphere is electric as Americans finally have hope for the future, unlike under Biden, when the whole place felt like it was collapsing under the weight of the crippling national debt, rising crime, collapsing education and an obsession with the climate change con that is economically decimating everything it touches.

Meanwhile Dems ("the Party of Peace") are destroying innocent people's Teslas, supporting terrorists (Hamas), and wanting criminal gang member illegal immigrants who would murder you rather than look at you to stay in the country.

And that's why it will be decades before a Democrat is ever elected president if the party continues down this destructive path 80% of Americans disagree with.

But you're correct on everything else :)

It's the spoon-feeding that is killing western youth and the west's future, and it's why Asia is taking over the world.

Exactly. Lucky for Cdrama fans tho, I don't think the Chinese care what people outside China think about their dramas. They love it if we watch them, but they're never going to change them for us. :)

And, as the vast majority of Chinese are better educated than westerners overall, and are taught to think for themselves (even within the CCP framework), it's probably one of the reasons why A Moment But Forever is going gangbusters in China right now, and is one of the most watched dramas of the year so far.

At least if what Chinese friends are telling me is true.

Same. And yes, this has incredible depth, is beautifully written, wonderful characters (even the supporting characters are interesting) and is easily one of the best Cdramas of the year so far.

And it's the problem with a lot of young people nowadays. Incredibly short attention spans due to too much time scrolling social media, and thus with no ability to think for themselves.

That's one of the reasons why any drama on MDL that requires actual thought, or a deep investment in the characters and the plot, gets low reviews. All done by people not trained to think for themselves, and expecting everything -- plot, explanation, character impetuses etc -- handed to them on a silver platter.

And then whining when it isn't.

It's a shame what social media has done to so many young people. It has taken away their ability to live meaningful lives, and instead has just handed them a life always lived on the surface.

I feel sorry for them.

Is it good? i want to check this but why the rating low?
Ignore the ratings. It's excellent. One of my faves in a long time -- smart, beautifully written, hilariously funny at times, with an ML and an FL who are brilliant, and with superb world building. Every character, even the evil ones, are also very nicely written and acted. Currently on Episode 9, but loving every second of this so far.

Sigh, first time I'm annoyed with an MDL rating. I know that MDL favours mostly traffic actors or idol dramas,…
Basically, if an MDL drama has a low score, chances are it's excellent.

I ignore every score on here -- high and low -- and judge dramas myself. Otherwise, you could end up missing something brilliant, like this one, or get stuck watching absolute garbage because you're waiting for the scenes that make it a 9 out of 10 :)

And yep, this is one of the best Cdramas I've watched in eons. I always knew I fit in better in Asia (lived there for 15 years) than in the west tho :)

OMG, the death scenes in Episode 8. Laughed so hard. Even watched the whole segment 3 times.

This is brilliant. And, in a fair number of scenes, absolute comedy gold. :)

I agree too. This adaptation of the drama is great. The female screenwriter of this drama is one of the best.
Haven't watched either of her other dramas (the ones already released). Thanks for the heads up. Will be checking those out as well, as her writing is so tight, it makes things just speed by :)

Loved the donghua (one of my Top 10), but this is even better. Amazing performance by Liu Xue Yi, and Tiffany Tang is also great. I rarely binge-watch (I have the world's shortest attention span), but this one I sat through 5 episodes before I even got up for a cup of coffee. :)

You can't. And anyone that reviews a full drama after just watching 5 episodes (unless it's a preliminary review) is not someone who should be taken seriously.

Hell, I'm absolutely HATING The Untamed, as I struggle through Episode 17, and I still will reserve final judgement until I've finished the damn thing.

You never know, it could surprise me in later episodes -- hahahaha.

I was loving this drama so far, but now I just finished ep 9 and am starting ep 10 and I'm getting a bit annoyed.…
You really don't want to miss the rest of it. One of my favorite Chinese dramas in years. And Dylan Wang's performance in it is phenomenal. Especially towards the end.

i really wish productions would stop having scenes of people talking with their mouths full & smacking. I have…
No worries, you're not the only one.

It's something that happens in a LOT of Asian shows and, yep, it grosses me out too. Lost count of how many Korean actors I've seen churning food around in their mouth as they talk :(

It's a cultural difference tho, and not seen as gross in much of Asia as it is in much of the west. In some Asian cultures, smacking or slurping as you eat noodles for instance, is seen as a sign the food is delicious and you appreciate it.

Nah, not with me :) -- And I lived in Asia for 15 years, traveled all over the continent, and never got used to it.

Wow, thank you so much. I kept looking for him in every episode, even rewound some parts where I thought I might have missed him (he would have been difficult to miss as he's so good in every part he takes, but ya never know :).

Now that makes sense that I didn't see him as his scenes were cut (Horrible for him, and for us).

Again, thanks so much for your help. Really appreciate it, as now I won't feel the need to keep rewatching episodes just to check :)

Why would you force yourself to watch something you obviously hate? Just drop it. 😆
The official translation is much better than the fan translation although, yep, will agree with you - much of the danmei genre will never really be "high literature" :), especially as so many of these Chinese authors crank out many many chapters a month.

But... as just fun entertainment goes, and with a BL slant, IMO, they're hard to beat.

Hahaha, I know but a) for better or worse, I'm a completionist and so usually (not always) stick it out. and b) I write about Asian dramas so, if I ever need to refer to The Untamed at some point, I don't want to cheat my readers by having not watched it all.

I do think tho, I would have enjoyed it better if I hadn't read the novels first. Twice.

Like I said tho, if people enjoy it, more power to 'em. I'm just disappointed I can't get into it like many people have been able to. Especially as I like both male lead actors.

Title The Untamed
Originally got to Episode 19 of this, then stopped. Couldn't muster any interest in continuing, even though I fooled myself into thinking it was "superb".

But, finally decided to give it another try, and am now currently on Episode 12 and feel like poking needles in my eyes.

The acting is terrible, some of the worst over-acting in any Cdrama, and the plot just DRAGS. (The novels are much much better).

Will probably struggle thru to the end this time, as I'd just like to get the damn thing off my watch list, but, no, it's nowhere near as good as the high rating would suggest.

Cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack is superb, but the directing is awful (could have cut so many pointless scenes, and it's supposed to get worse as it goes on), and the horrible over acting and the exaggerated facial expression make it difficult to watch.

Currently on 1.5 speed, but will probably bump it up to 2x by the time I'm done.

Happy for you if you enjoy this but, no, it's obviously not for me.

A shame as I'm a huge novel fan, and really really really wanted to like this -- I just don't.
