I came with big expectations after watching another period Cdrama that shared many elements with this one and was absolutely amazing (Sparrow). After completing FIL I think I should've just dropped it when I wrote this comment cause it didn't get any better by the end.
The fact that it's a remake erases the element of surprise. To me, one of the biggest ones was about the SFL's mom. Since it's a remake, I'm sure they'll follow the original script about it. Not sure we'll see another pregnancy though since the eps count ain't sufficient for that.

I'm not sure that if it was another actor the positive feelings would still be while watching this encounter, considering what a jerk he was towards the kids' mom and adoptive dad.
So many years have passed since I've seen Empress Ki but I really feel that the story of both dramas is very similar. I understand that they took inspiration from real events in Chinese history but the whole baby plot makes me think they totally relied to some extant on EK's story.
The barn scene in ep 7 was so horrendous and reminded me of my grandmas stories about how the Ukrainian neighbors burned alive innocent Jews constantly .
