No actually that comment was made by the black market broker and Deok Hee's colleague as she didn't really understand the obsession but it was not even close. The bond between the leads is that of filial and parental love and respect but not romantic, it was never romantic, atleast not between the leads. Their minds and hearts were connected by a passion that is beyond sensual, I don't have words to describe the feelings at this moment but I understand what the writers were going for. Refreshingly horrific.

Actually no, I think her screen time was perfect,they didn't shove her up in our faces all the time so the aura around her character heightened, should've been same for the dogs too.

perhaps the writers decided to unpack a lot of stuffs and leave it open without rationalising it all. I personally think this film is a play ground for the actors to show the depth of their acting skills. it wasn't supposed to make huge sense.
