I'm about halfway through this drama and despise how it's broken up into 30min episodes. I feel it would have fared better if 20 episodes/1hr each (I'll take it a step further and say it would've done even better at 16 episodes, cutting out some of the useless filler added for story telling). Most people see 40 episodes and they'll put it on the back-burner to never watch it, thinking it will take them weeks to get through everything or they believe it won't be able to keep their attention long enough. The 30mins go by quick witch each episode, though, and there's enough of a story there to keep one engaged if they like historical dramas.
I didn't initially plan to watch this drama, in all honesty. Some of the forums I'm on didn't really talk about it much and it's not one I see recommended often, but wanted to look into L's other work and decided to give this one a try. Kinda' glad I did, because I like it so far. I really dig the political aspects of historical dramas that has romance strewn throughout it, so this one is right up my alley despite some of the obvious plot holes I am already seeing.
However, I feel it will end happy given how the story has gone so far despite all the twists and turns. Too much focus is put on romance aspect of the drama to be otherwise. I dig a lot of characters and the acting is fairly well for what it is, so I can't complain too much. I've definitely seen worse.
Even though I am only halfway through, I would recommend this to those wanting a drama to watch over time -- something slow-paced with a decent enough story to keep you engaged that you can watch over the course of a week or two in between other dramas. Don't expect super steamy make-out scenes or over the top fights with extreme suspense and thrills, but it has enough going for it that makes it "just right". Don't go into with extremely high expectations and you won't be disappointed ... as I said, I'm halfway through and went into it thinking it would be the worst given how the reviews were, but honestly? It's not been too bad. I've enjoyed it for what it is so far.
Wow! I just finished this and this drama get's a lot bad reviews. I had a lot fun with this show. I felt like I was watching a historical comic book movie. Did everything make perfect sense? No but I didn't need it to. The one major weakness was L and how he was portrayed in the drama. I've liked him in other series but not in this one.

Halfway through, and this is a great drama, but I need a break. It's just too much all the time. I wished the drama had some moments of respite amongst all the fighting and backstabbing, so we could catch our breath. I need some balance in my dramas, so it doesn't become boring...
I watched the first episode of this drama but I just could not get interested. The filming is very dark in the beginning and maybe something is lost in the translation--I’m not sure. It seems okay but something is a little off. I love historical dramas but maybe it’s because I just finished watching “TheTale of Nokdu” which was amazing and maybe there’s just too much difference between the two. I guess I’ll have to try again later.
18 episodes in and this is becoming one of my all time favorite sagueks ever! SO GOOD! I am on the edge of my seat, love all the main/side characters, and am so glad this is 48 episodes so I can enjoy it for a little longer. I don't wanna skip anything when I watch. Honestly, give this a try.
Started watching not too long ago and Prince Yeoning seems like an asshole husband
The wife became frustrated like that because of him and she was described in historical records to be a generous queen so what the hell happened on their early marriage?
Some people ways of scoring are... not for others to say the least lol. Your response definitely made me laugh out loud, as that’s how i react looking at many here.
Started watching this drama expecting it to be slow and boring but everything turned out to be the complete opposite! It was fast paced, gripping, exciting and inspirational that you can’t help but cheer for the main character as he faced the bad guys, turned enemies into allies and overcome every adversity! One of the few sageuk dramas I’ve watched not to focus entirely on romance, it was still a masterful and thrilling storytelling. Maybe its only letdown was Go Ah Ra’s promising character was watered down to almost a nonexistent and nonessential support role (maybe due to the unfortunate accident she sustained during filming, I guess).

Moon Lovers! (It’s soo good and not what you usually see! It’s one of my favorite dramas in general)
100 days my prince (the story is typical but in a good enjoyable way)
The Untamed (it’s good but it’s a chinese drama)
Nokdu” which was amazing and maybe there’s just too much difference between the two. I guess I’ll have to try again later.
