But it is realistic. Many dramas romantize the fall off of prestigious families but the reality (same with wars) is that women (especially young ones) get raped and abused. This is almost inevitable in this scenario. FL would have been too if not for the ML’s power and relentless tactics and resources he’s been using to save her.

I think the issue here is the lack of transparency between them. ML thinks that FL still likes SML and broke up to protect him. And FL thinks that ML liked her sister and only pities her (out of guilt). So I feel it makes sense they don’t confess yet.

Exactly...I don't like her character and she's very boring BUT she was never evil (just dumb and naive) and she did try to stay away from brothels. Men used and abused women however they wanted so I don't blame her at all for using men too (and at least she does like SML and will treat him well). She has no one protecting her so I would do the same thing to survive if I was in her predicament.

It is manipulative but to be fair to her, not sure how else could she find a future being a pretty young woman at the mercy of men around her. It's either accepting to be raped by any man who fancies her or becoming a courteasan. She knows that apart from him no respectable man would want to marry her. QY would have had the same fate if ML wasn't proactively protecting her and cleaning up her mess. The SML is coddled a lot but he is a grown man.

It’s a fact actually, she told her sister and the ML that she didn’t fall in love with him but he treats her well and likes her so she much rather be with him than become a nun or an old man’s concubine.

I personally much prefer this drama and the FL character. I didn’t like Story of Minglan and don’t see the Michelin star quality at all. But each to their own.
