I keep rewatching episode 6 and laughing at how bold and obvious ML is. He is literally pitching himself as her only best suitor and suggesting she pursues and uses him instead. Their whole interaction and flirting during the game was soooo entertaining.

PREACH! There is not even a tiny remote chance for anyone to have SL syndrome. I only feel pity for the second leads.

This drama is SO MUCH better than Novoland so if you liked him there, you will adore him here. I don't like too much palace and political intrigues either, I prefer romance driven dramas, and I get bored easily. This drama has literally kept me on the edge and wanting for more after each episodes. I would be surprised if you don't like it. It's rare to see so much consensus in the comment section of MDL so it speaks volume. Let me know what you think once you've watched a few episodes.

It can be very subjective. For me this drama is a mix between Under the Power and Story of Ming lan, but I personally prefer this drama as, unlike many people, I didn't feel the chemistry between the leads in these dramas. Here the tension, body language, and everything is fantastic - the chemistry is top notch and I don't mind them not kissing yet. There isn't a focus on one particular aspect: it's a mix of investigation/self discovery journey of each character and romance (romance is built up very slowly and will be full on from episodes 20+ - this is one of the best relationship build up I've seen in C dramas). If you like dramas like Pride and Prejudice (but in a C drama historical set up) then you will love it. There are obviously the typical annoying side characters, sisters, etc. but as you can see from the comments, no one cares about them as we only ship the OTP.

It fits perfectly with her character though. She’s been consistently trying yo survive since the start and fight against sexism. She is a proper feminist which is very rare. So for her what matters is to live happily and freely on her own terms. She is also smart so she knows that having pride in her predicament is useless- she rather eat well while being a prostitute than clean up toilets and be a slave for the rest of her life.

They are so silly as a lot of people would pay extra to get all episodes earlier. They probably didn’t expect it to do as well. We’re all addicted to it :(

The way the FL looked at the ML when she entered the room and saw him close to the courtesan - amazing acting. You can feel the jealousy and possessiveness.

And the top courtesan being smart and understanding that she’s the third wheel here was the cherry on the cake. This drama is AWESOME

I also want him to be different and loyal, but this drama so far has been more on the "realistic" side than the fluffy angle so if marrying a legal wife while letting her be a concubine saves her life, then I think it's fair enough. She, herself, is very pragmatic and matter of fact when it comes to marriage. She was willing to be anyone's concubine in order to survive and not become a nun/

Yes, they match perfectly. Both passionate, upright and fierce but he is rational and sees the bigger picture vs she is impulsive and emotional hence acting on impulse.

First episodes are great but it then gets boring. I’m vain so I sometimes stick to dramas if the ML is hot. Jeremy was worth my time.

Maybe he manages to prove her father’s innocence so they get rehabilitated in the end and he manages to marry her as main wife.

He picked her because he thought she was his childhood sweetheart (because of the fan) and FL clearly had eyes on his BFF. Would have been weird for him to pick her back then.

He was stellar in Legend of Dugu - he and the SFL literally run the show and made me forget about any plot and the main leads.

Don't understand either - I hope any Mandarin speaker in here could help as apparently what they say is super sweet. No, I don't unfortunately.
