I read on weibo that FL may be a princess. Not sure how credible this is as it would mean that the concubine’s real daughter died and they switched her with a real princess (FL). So many theories!!

Yes, it should in theory have worked but nothing was done properly. Just comparing this drama to an underrated drama with least famous actors/less budget like Autumn Ballad, and the difference is truly shocking.

I'm not a fan of her acting but I think that overall, and when benchmarked against other chinese female actresses (level is pretty low), she is still ok. The issue IMO is that the cast doesn't work at all in this drama and the ML is bad which doesn't help. She was very good in Ashes of love because the role suited her and was well written.

Yup, the makeup artist did him dirty. Horrible foundation and weird contact lenses. Jeremy is absolutely gorgeous naturally and doesn’t need to be westernized. He looks his best in legend of phoenix.

I’m 100% convinced that he is QM’s dad. This would explain the awkwardness at the temple, the main wife’s relationship with the Fl (since she knows her daughter is an illegitimate love child she may have felt guilty and didn’t want to favour her over the legitimate daughter). And it would explain why evil granny poisoned her.

Regarding the monk and legal wife

Guys, this drama reminds me so much of Pride and Prejudice (2005 version). Not the storyline obviously but everything else: the FL/ML characters, the way it approaches pride/prejudice, the whole feel and aesthetic. It doesn’t feel like a typical C drama but more of a bbc period drama in Chinese setting. I don’t understand the criticism against the FL acting: it’s been a while I haven’t enjoyed a C drama actress so much. Her comic timing is perfect and she is equally excellent in dramatic scenes. The ML is also perfect, I wish they’d let Jeremy not wear weird eye contact lenses- his natural brown eyes are deep and mesmerising.

Totally - everything, every detail is tasteful. Loveeee the costumes and cinematography. Director must have taken inspiration from Pride and Prejudice (the 2005 version). So many similarities between the characters’ story and demeanour.

The most addictive drama...waiting is a torture. Wait until all episodes air.

The son is useless and if she doesn’t have a son what can she do about it. Women get married off and don’t run the house so there’s no reason why she’d treat the FL badly. The FL is not a threat as she will end up getting married off.

Yes, they look super comfortable and confident. You can really tell on screen when actors are more mature and have had more life experience vs super young/idol type of acting (no offence to idols, it just caters to a younger audience).
