One of the topics I think handled pretty well in this drama is homelessness. It doesnt have to be someone sleeping on the side of the street or a shelter to be called homeless. Miao Jing and Chen Yi have spent their childhood without a home Miao Jing literally being thrown from a place to another, unable to share the same space with her mum even and Chen Yi being pushed out of said home and forced to live on the street as only abuse awaits him at 'home' you spend a good part of the drama worrying if they can have food on the table or a place to sleep in at night all while leading, seemingly, normal lives from the outside.

The thing about Chen Yi is that he was a victim from the very start and lived his entire life on survival mode
His dad tortured him as a child under the notion that he is a bastard child that his wife conceived out of an affair
He never bothered to know if that is true, because he needed the cause to get his anger out on the child, a powerless entity that he can easily have power over. If he found out that this was his actual son, he would have to face the fact that he tortured his own son, and he was too angry to stop hurting the kid and too much of a coward to ever face up or own to anything.
The torture began when his mother died and the father’s anger at the mum leaving him, and thus his mum became the only good thing to ever happen to him.
Then when a new family came in, and he was forced to share even the little things he had for two people who mean nothing to him. At this point he had a fire in him, resentment to his father but a belief he can do better and be better. He lived a life outside of home and did all dirty jobs to stay alive. He had a plan to go to the police academy and make something for himself. But his selfish dad couldnt bear to lose his torture device and despite everyone’s efforts, he lost his chance. At this point he realized that good things just dont happen to him. He is bound to be a miserable thing his whole life.
Then with his dad’s death and the scam and finding out he has to work to death to keep the only thing that connects to his mother, his apartment. He decided to fight to survive. The only thing he counted on as a constant, having the apartment when his dad died, became also endangered
At this point miao jing came in, she started as a parasite and turned into his friend and then into his companion. Both at rock bottom, living their worst lives, and yet they each offered a broken shoulder the other can rely on. Beautiful broken youngsters, he uses his fists and strength, and she uses her brain. Both trying to get the same result.
When his survival ways threw him into Zhang Bing’s way. He thought he was repaying a debt of gratitude for him saving his life. He put miao jing’s future as the end goal and worked tirelessly, doing his best to balance the dirty world and securing a future. He knew he had to be reliable, but he always had to have a way out. Something way easier said than done.
He tried to help the officer and be a double agent without compromising himself or miao jing. And right at the moment he genuinely believed he can finally have his family and life on track, the fire happened and he had to push miao jing away before she got burned. He believed if she can have a good life then all his suffering which had no cause or explanation will finally have a meaning. And from this point forth, he deleted the idea of Chen Yi and he became in his eyes just a cause for miao jing to have a better life. It doesnt matter how low he gets, it doesnt matter what happens to him, as long as she gets to live the life she deserves.
Shortly after, he was trafficked, and spent three gruesome years doing the unthinkable. Coming back from that, he stopped believing he is a human equal to everyone around him.
So when miao jing came, he fought against her hard, he couldnt believe that she would return to that filthy place or him. But he loved her so much. So much that he finally had a reason to get back on his feet and to better himself enough to give her a decent life and to sacrifice himself enough to make sure she doesnt suffer.
And then comes the beauty of this story in the form of miao jing.

She always knew he did this to get her out while he suffered, she had to live by stepping on his ashes and she was painfully aware of it. Mad at him, and guilty and hurt and broken.
The moment she had her life together, she went back for him.
She took the time to understand his situation, knew she couldnt just force him into things, kept her cool and continued her work, and worked tirelessly to show him there is another way. He deserves to be loved, he deserves to be seen as a human. The whole drama, that people are calling boring, is how this dynamic played out. How she used every situation to force him into seeing a way out and a better future
She could have forced him into Hai city and for that to be it, but she needed him to understand deep down that he deserved it.
The girl used her six years to heal and then went back and healed him, solved his problems, forced him to see a way in all the darkness that is his life. She was smart and understanding. Knew when to push him and when to step back, when to support him and when to call him out. And how to do each one of them.
And that was all so beautifully done.
He got her out, she went back for him.
And at the end, they always knew they will be each other’s home
The beauty of this drama is how two literally broken souls, healed each other. And the story telling was just the cherry on top.

This drama is perfect in every single way! love how they are exploring the themes, scenes are so well put together. i usually get very bored with such stories but this is so perfect I cant put it down
I am giving this a 9/10 simply because the relationships between Chen Yan Yun, Gu Jin Zhao and Ye Xian was soooooo well done and they stayed true to all three dyanmics till the very end It was so good to see the platonic vs romantic relationships they had intertwined and the scenes that had any two of these three were just so good and a shout out to the emperor! That being said, two characters that were just so terribly written were Chen Xuan Qing and Xue Qing Lan. so much wasted potential on 2dimensional characters. they had so much more to give and their writing didnt suit their characters at allll. they could have been written waaay better Plot wise, honestly lots of things could have been done better, especially after the wedding, it went pretty downhill (even though some scenes with xuan qing were really well done even when i dont agree with all the direction), last 5 eps were jsut not good at all, esp ep 36 was extremely hard to get through On the other hand, absolutey loved how they wrote all of gu jin zhaos relationships with different people throughout the show, and how these characters kept showing up as you watch which was nice. and lots of great scenes and great takes on different things So yeah overall a 9/10 for all the great scenes, characters and relationships. But cdramas seriously need to uo their game with left plot lines and terrible endings
jin zhao taking forever to find people and chen yan yun finding them instantly has got to be one of the most satisfyingly accurate things. he has way more resources in that area even when she is filthy rich and I love how that was portrayed in this aspect
First half of the drama was perfect second half is not bad but had way too much potential the biggest problem in this show is it had great characters and great actors/actresses, all with great synergy with one another. but they lacked a good scriptwriter to give them all justice 3 dimensional characters in a 2 dimensional script it is so sad cuz the characterizations are just soooo good! things i would have loved to see more of is rather than explaining the stories of every character, we could have had the characters flesh out their history through their actions we had soooooo many opportunities to show each character and make them interact and those interactions would have been gold, but instead the writers chose to separate every two characters in a side plot and have them explain anything related to them rather than showing it, the prime minister and grand tutor, u wouldnt have guessed how deep their history is with how shallow their scenes were 90% of the drama the saddest part is that this drama had over 10 interesting characters!! and the acting and chemistry carried too!! and they managed to fumble all the interactions! putting that aside, since the characters were good it was an enjoyable watch and the first half is a solid 10, second half 7.5 but overall definitely a must watch

this is not just an enemies to lovers done right, it is an amnesia done right too (in the sense that it doesnt just change the tone of the whole drama in that annoying way most amnesia dramas do)

this show was just perfect
It was so good to see the platonic vs romantic relationships they had intertwined and the scenes that had any two of these three were just so good
