Yeah, most Bls tend to avoid that topic completely. Its okay though, I personally don't want to watch every lgbt romance fraught with homophobia. It might be shallow but i love seeing wholesome accepting communities most of the time
But i also love stories that talk about prejudice; Bls directed by Aof (Thai) always portray different types of prejudice in a realistic way, be it internal homophobia, parents or the society at large.
The eighth episode reminded me of something that happened at my school. It was an all girls school with a co-ed college, boys and girls could only mingle once they were in grade 11 or 12. When I was in ninth grade, the girl I had a crush on was suspended from school for kissing another girl.
In those days, most schools had a rules handbook which our parents had to sign. These were handed out at the beginning of the session. Soon after this incident, the school reprinted the manuals all over again with a new rule forbidding students from kissing 😆
In all the years when the guys and girls have been going out, the school didn't feel the need to introduce this rule but suddenly when two girls kissed they printed thousands of manuals again.
That incident is funny to look back on but it definitely wasn't funny to me back then. I can feel Aoki here. It sucks when people you look up to disappoint you like this, not that i ever looked up to the teachers at our school but Aoki felt close to Okano as a mentor and friend.
I am getting clear S/M vibes from Utsukushii Kare and I want to line out below. Not major spoilers
–The first thing which triggered this was when Hira said that even though Kiyoi makes him do his chores, he likes it. Of course, this can be taken to mean that he likes that he gets attention from Kiyoi.
—Secondly, in episode 2. He was about to propose taking pictures for Kiyoi but then he remembered when Kiyoi told him not to in episode 1. “No more, ok?” Hira treated it as an order as is often seen in S/M relationships. This of course can be countered by the fact that he took a picture of Kiyoi in the final scenes of episode 2. He was too overwhelmed by his feelings for Kiyoi but he still did "disobey."
—Lastly, when Kiyoi tells him not to call him Mr. Kiyoi and Hira replies that he can't not do it. Kiyoi's "friends" don't call him Kiyoi all the time, it's a joke between them, but Hira feels the need to always address Kiyoi respectfully.
I love how they are showing this dynamic which, albeit subtle, is something which is quite unique in the sense that not many romances show it.
—The episode 3 preview seems to be pointing at this too. We have to remember though that probably neither Koyoi nor Hira are even aware of the existence of sm practices.
It was okay, actually compared to bl plots it's pretty stellar. But lately we've been getting shows like Bad Buddy, Utsukushii Kare, Kieta Hatsukoi and Fragrance of the first flower which are not just awesome lgbt romances but they are really well done romances as well (many people tend to separate lgbt from het romances).
Compared to these, PWL feels a bit bland. I think it will develop really well though. Probably a final score of 8.0 from me.
I'm very happy that they didn't do it drunk. I hate the "we were drunk when we did it and I didn't mean it" trope.
They were drunk but they had both showered and were quite aware of what they were doing and feeling. Even if one of them chooses it to attribute the kiss to being drunk, he would be lying to himself and we all know it.
This might be a small detail but it's quite important to me.
People keep saying that they had the best kiss scene but I don't think that's quite it. Many actors have had great chemistry with one another. For Bad Buddy, the way in which the story was developed, the overwhelming emotions and like you said, a kiss that makes sense, I think these were what made them shine so much. And ofc they are great actors. I love the director so much
I really shouldn't have watched episode 5 yesterday, now I'm ready to give my liver for the next episode and I've never felt like this before for any show...
Moving on to Pa and Ink, I have been regularly posting on the feeds about them and I see what the director did. Pran and Pat need all the screentime right now to develop their story. Instead of cutting their time for Pa and Ink but still to develop their story, he always gives them their own time.
Like in episode 4, Pa and Ink were alone for quite some time during the photoshoot. And in the mall when Pat left them alone, they pretty much had a date ^^ I also love how Pa keeps championing Ink and tells Pat to pursue her. Even if there is no romantic development between Pa and Ink, it's quite evident that Pa places Ink on a pedestal.
The Murder of Snow White was less of a murder mystery and more of a life story. One quote sums it up,
“The internet exposes the truth. The internet accuses falsely.”
Btw, did anyone notice how Miki’s friend, the one she called Diane, called herself Gilbert? If Miki is Anne and she was Gilbert...I think Yuko was in love with Miki. I hope she gets her happy ending, both of them.
I haven’t seen the Japanese one, but I thought the Korean movie was really good if you’re interested in that…

Thanks for this OAL I love watching mindless gore sometimes but the Death Game genre productions often have great messages hidden in them.
I avoid Sanjay Dutt like the plague so it's not surprising that I haven't watched the Bollywood film "Luck." Maybe I should try it, might have something good in it...
