Mmh! I’m not conflicted in how to review ML’s character.
If you we are looking at it at face value, then it was creepy.
However, I kinda also thought the “faith” or religion night have been a bad English translation in general.
If we look at when it started, he saw something in her that no one else, and thought it was better for her to study than him. That alone can have many interpretations which may include a boy with a crush and blinded by love without knowing what he was doing.
The part I found creepy and find creepy in Asian dramas, is the idea of someone owing the other their life just because they helped them, and that their lives belongs to them to just freely give for another. But, I brush it off, as in ancient times people didn’t know any better.
ML’s is not one of a straightforward weirdo and possessive person, although he neglected himself for her.
I would call his character ambiguous, which can be dangerous depending on the situation and an environment.
FL has been his drive and motivation in life. So, because we were not shown their spiritual beliefs, I can’t conclude that he treated her as his religion.

Actually wanted to repeat
I actually started it and dropped it within 5 minutes, I was distracted. I will start it again when I can give the first episode my full attention.
Before that i was watching Game Charger, but it has bad translation, although I found it entertaining as a different genre from what I’m used to.
I currently don’t know what to watch honestly, will probably repeat one of my faves, until I can give a new drama attention.
You also didn’t have to put a rumour here about his personal life if you really thing it’s up to him.
These rumours hurt the actors’ real lives, stop it.
