On The Emperor Through to the Modern Feb 12, 2026
I have watched this drama (I) en its sequel Emperor through to the Modern II with only part of the episodes subbed. I can´t really understand Chinese, so I did not get the story 100%. Somehow I still liked it, and I could understand enough to continue. I wonder what happened to the FL actress Yuan Zhong Fang, I quite liked her. According to the MDL information she seems to have stopped acting.

Unfortunately the male lead seems to have a poisonous cocktail of personality disorders. I´m not sure if he falls in the tsundere spectrum.

good question, my interpretation was that since she ´suddenly´ got her amazing sense of smell in her youth through eating hot peppers, she can loose it by eating something else. I don´t remember if this was part of the story in the original web novel.

Positive things and critical things can be said, as you can read as you scroll down. All of the criticism is correct. However, I enjoyed this drama because of the cooking, the food, the attention for the senses (esp smell, taste, seeing). After watching the series I read the original web novel in English. Title (The) Heartbeat at the Tip at the tongue by Jiao Tang Dong Gua. You can easily find the translated novel online. Book better than drama.

Thnx for your reaction. Let´s hope indeed that the matters of Nashi and HYTT are resolved, and their careers can go on as they wish. True, vertical dramas have quite horrible narratives. A happy 2026 for you too, as well as a prosperous year of the Horse.

Wow, I had not paid much attention to her Deng Chanyu female general character when I watched Creation of The…
Isn´t the case of the Mongolian actress still under investigation? If it is true, this type of fraud seems a serious matter. The earrings that the young actress Huang Yuang Tiantian supposedly flaunted (I didn´t see her bragging) were borrowed from her mother. The earrings appeared to be glass relatively cheap replicas of an original high end jewelry. Due to the research the Chinese authorities started her family was accused of having more than one child (2 daughters!) during the times of one child policy. Who cares about that now that China has major problems in shortage of women, due to the abortions of babygirls and the killings of women for centuries. Because of the fake jewelry investigation her father was accused of a financial issue that seemed minor and farfetched to me. Anyways, as punishment he paid money to the government, and a fine or something. So that should be settled than, in stead of canceling a young woman, and ruining a family over nothing really.

Dude, you keep spamming this garbage about the movie being CCP propaganda and somehow causing the Jiangyou protests,…
When you have issues with Chinese films, censured or otherwise, on this historical subject, check out the many existing photographs of the Nanjing massacre, they are easy to find online. Perhaps you could read the book, titled ´Rape of Nanking´, 1997 by American-Chinese historian and journalist Iris Chang. (American) Films based on her book are a documentary film ´Iris Chang. The Rape of Nanking´ 2007 and the INDEPENDENT documentary film ´Nanking´, also 2007. You may be interested in films and dramas about the Japanese bacterial experiments on Chinese, Korean and Mongolian human beings during 1936 - 1945. Check out the film ´731´ and drama ´Man´s Inhumanity to Man´, both 2025 on this subject. Another story is the systematic rape and forcing of Asian and European women to serve Japanese soldiers as sexual slaves (named comfort women by the Japanese oppressor). Google it, and you will find films and documentaries on this subject. The Tienanmen square protest (1989) is one of the so called Three T´s in China. Taiwan, Tibet, Tienanmen square are Taboo. Former studentleaders like Chai Ling and Bob Fu, now living in western countries, wrote books. You can easily find western documentaries online about this subject, like The Gate of Heavenly Peace (1995) and Frontline: Tank Man (2006).

I did not watch yet, it is on my plan to watch list, just as other films and dramas about the Sino-Japanese wars. I´m still looking for (older) titles, hoping the older ones are still online. Any recommendations?

It is traditionally normal in my North-Western European country too. The wife, usually the one managing the family and the household, is responsible for the finances, the husband gets pocket money.
