Ok so I paused watching the drama until now. Full disclosure, I am a fan of Yang Zi. I didn't have high hopes for this drama.
It is everything I'm not fond of. Xianxan and long. I hate long drama. Chinese dramas are also notorious for fillers. Also, Xianxan has the cliche formula and tropes.
The images look gorgeous, and the Trailer looked funny. So, I figured I'll give it a try.
Believe me or not. I could care less. I have no problem criticizing a drama of actors I'm a fan of and complimenting an actor I'm not a fan of.
I dropped her drama, Mogwli Boy. The script sucked. I did not like her character. I didn't care for her character in ode joy either. Too whiney.
Although I had it on paused, I continue to come read and sometime comment on the drama. I have issues with angst and needed to be completed before I continued.
So here are some pointers I wanted to comment on from what I read. Regardless of how carefully I word this and KNow it is some and not all. ......well if you are offended....then you're probably an offender.
1. People complained about the Angst/troupe/cliche
I find this funny. Do they realize they are watching a Xianxan drama??!!! Even if there is some deviation, it is still a Xianxan. Which mean it will have the typical trope. Each drama and story will execute it differently, but in general same formula.
Don't give me that BS of, even if it is a Xianxan. It should still be more like this and that. Your bias and prejudice are showing. Sit down. I know for a fact that if these people were watching it with their Favorite, they'll be singing a different tone. I feel many who state this is not with "in Good faith." Constructive.
Point is you go into a Genre but expect it NOT to have similarities to its usual Tropes?> What? i.e. I got into a romance movie, regardless of how it is executed. They all have the same formula but presented differently. Some are more creative in how they make it and others not so much.
I.e. > Hallmark Movies. They pretty much all the same formula. But that is what people love about it. A feel good easy love story (romantic movie.).
2. Not Romantic (mortal realm)
I know people's romantic vibe is different, but again I find that many of the comments are "Not in good faith."
As state I know people 's Definition of "Romances" is different. For many people it is the buildup to skinship like Horny teenagers. For others it is romantic mature love. There is different type of love languages that clicks with people. It also depends on our experiences as well.
As I stated, Many and Not all.
I like and enjoyed the Eternal love (24 ep 1). Part two was ok, BUT too much kissing. Part 1 had lots of kissing to but a slightly better storyline. By part 2, I was tired of the senseless kissing.
I found the mortal realm romantic. It was a different type of romantic vibe. It's that yearning, the glaze of the eyes, the light touch, the observations and so on. That simple interactions......made my heart fluttered with anticipation. They got to really know each other and care for each other. I found their love very touching because of the friendship. Just passionate love can get you so far. Oh the flirting got me giggling and heart fluttering. Yes, many of those scenes are "Dreams", but it is still the characters desire.
But again, I understand different people have different style.....but many commenter were in bad faith.
3. Angst and Misunderstanding
I Loathe IT and usually avoid them. I even stopped the drama to avoid it. The angst honestly wasn't bad at all. AGAIN coming to a Xianxan drama it should be expected. Like coughing blood, dying before you finish your sentences, and long episodes. I felt that this angst propel the story for better character development.
I felt the Main Leads didn't have a lot of misunderstandings. There was miscommunication. That can't be avoided. There was some miscommunication ....more misunderstanding from lack of mindset to understand (experiences)
The misunderstandings are of the Intent the other person had for the other. FL being "Green". She isn't experienced enough to see things in gray. ML was not a big difference. Even with his experiences, he was very rigid. Black and white with a hint of gray. Both from different type of upbringing.
Which, in turn.....is a great opportunity for character growth in which the drama did.
They communicated but it was not Functional communications. They couldn't have that understanding, until they went through the mortal trial experiences.
YD would have NEVER fully understood and be able to have that understanding communication with him until her mortal realm experiences. During her experiences in the mortal realm, she witnessed his anguish and struggled with his duties. She also was able to build more bond with him.
YY also would never fully understand nor communicate with YD well until he fully lived as TZ. As TZ he was able to lived in a less restrictive environment. He still had his duties but with more freedom of expression. During here time here, he learned how to truly express his love and even fight for it.,
Without these experiences they would never be able to fully communicate and understand each other. They were on a different wave length in the past and now it has merged better.
Many people say for them to just talk to each other. It is NEVER that simple. You can talk to someone all you want, but if they don't have that mindset and understand. Then it is pointless and result in nothing. This is also in real Life. We ourselves deal with. IF it is just as simple as to "just talk to each other", then we never would have conflict. But that isn't.
Again I find many of the comment in bad faith and lack there of worldly experiences and knowledge.
4. YD and YY - Some people mad at their reactions and decisions (blaming)
YY got grief in how he handled it in the Heavens and YD for mortal world.
YY inadvertently caused her suffering but it is not totally his fault. He has never presented himself as anything other than who he is. He is The LIL Emperor who is to follow the rules and fill his duties. That is what he was groomed for his whole life. She did she some of his sorrow and suffering during the roof scene. She was too "green" to fully understand/comprehend his responsibilities/BURden and restraint. Until the Mortal realm.
YD- Being pissed at him after she gain her memories
Many people were pissed at her reaction.
But her reaction makes total sense . She just gained her memory. Which mean it felt like it just happened to her. So it is expected for her to just easily digest it and go, let by gones be by gones. Yes, because it is soo easy to just get over things (SARCASM). Her reaction is appropriate. She was pissed, hurt, and full of anguish. She did not hurt him. She still saved his life. She was not revengeful and try to make him pay. She chose to save herself more grief because she knows who he is. She knows he will have to go back to the restraint of the heavens. On earth he has the restraint of the bracelet. So why does she need to accept his love. She doesn't owe it to him. She chose to love herself. She wasn't wrong, he is restraint as the Chief in waiting. His position and duties caused her harm again. She again is put on trial for death. This time TZ restraint broke with is will to break free.
We see a lot of parallel experiences of the Main leads here. The cliff scene and the scene at the alley. YD and TZ words/actions parallel each other.
I felt the writing here was good. There is of course some filler and little drag. It was actually not bad. I ffw more in AOL. The angst there was much worse and oh the damn love triangle. The characters here are all smart, comradery and great character growth.
I LOVE YD, so smart, naughty and witty. One of the best FL characters out there. I love the 3 main characters and their comradery. ML is smart and mischievous. Yumo is sweet and caring.
I was thinking the same, but Yan Dan was pretty naive at that time and thought that one should have their loved…
I feel that is different....YD did not harm other people or try to force or claim YY.
She wanted the trust and loved.....
I'm speaking about the female protagonists who does things for the ML with their own free will....they never act like they love them....but feels like ...they deserve their love because they did things for them on their own
If YD felt like he didn't care at all....i feel she will let it be and just suffer. Her situation was different. It was the betrayal with all her surrounding by her most trusted ppl, YY and her sister. But i agree she was naive in understanding his responsibilities/duties.....which gave good opportunities for characters growth of both lead characters

I love the trio....i hate love triangles and i love how it is done here. They all built a friendship/comradery.
Less skinship....but they don't need it....their interactions....flirting from TZ is top notch. It oozing from the eyes and body-language.
My favorite has to be YD mortal character. SHe is soo smart and witty. Had me laughing a lot.
