Mmmm. I *strongly* encourage you to watch LYF. He’s one of the MLs. There’s three MLs. He’s one of them and he’s garnering quite a gathering for his ship with YangZi. I’m firmly planted on that ship. Up to you! Just don’t want you to miss out ❤️
My FAVORITE scene so far is the chess scene in episode 11. I’ve rewatched it so many times, I rewatched it right after I watched it and then continued with the episode. Didn’t read the novel, just me getting feels. Firstly, its because I love the dynamic of the three - no drama, just three friends playing chess and having a fun time. Gets me anxious for all the fighting that I’m assuming is to come.
Secondly, I think it’s a very good representation of each of the two male leads in this game of go or of life. ShiQi is just happy to be there with her. He doesn’t care if he loses. As long as she’s there, he’s winning. As someone who is acclaimed to be one of the best chess masters ever, he doesn’t feel the need to live up to that title because all that defines him, is WXL and how she feels about him. He lets her do whatever she wants even if it’s the wrong move and he’s always there to fix it for her. At the end of the game, HE says, “‘I lost.” When it’s very clear he likely would have won if it weren’t for her. He’s willing to bear the responsibility for both of them even if she’s the one that messed up.
CX starts by saying he doesn’t like playing with WXL because she always retracts her chess pieces. But mid game, he tells WXL a couple times that she’s free to take it back, I’m assuming because the move was just that bad. Basically he disregards what SHE wants because he thinks he knows what’s best for her. In life, maybe we can extrapolate that to him always wanting to protect her? Obviously he doesn’t know who she is at that point yet but the audience does and his actions during chess show his personality. It’s not wrong what he does, it just illustrates what type of person he is and how he interacts with those around him.
Both care about her. They both just do it in different ways. SQ letting her do whatever she wants and he will shoulder all the blame and losses. CX trying to prevent her from doing the wrong things so he can protect her from the consequences. Just my personal opinion for my fave scene. I’m gonna go watch it again now. <3
Just watched episode 1. OMG the 2 kids are amazing. Literally teared up with them.

I think WXL and XL has the oddest relationship I’ve ever seen. From the moment he sank his teeth into her (literally) I was like um…what??? And yet the drama tries to show this softening relationship between the two. It’s the weirdest thing ever. And she LETS him.

I agree. But instead of annoyed I’m just sad. To me (I didn’t read the novel) I think it’s because she has a fear of being abandoned and being alone. That’s why she never places her trust in anyone. But she decided to take a chance on 17 and for years it seemed promising that he’d be there for her forever. Well, he let her down. He wasn’t there when she took that risk to trust that he’d be there. So she’s probably hesitant in placing trust in him again. Not sure if she’s petty or angry. Might be combo of those things but also disappointed and sad? That’s just me thinking. I’m on episode 12.
