Okay but, Song Yi is doing an exceptional job here. I am so impressed with the emotion she is bringing to these scene. I didn't like her much in Destined, but she is FIRE in this drama.
Because the ML thinks (and the father thinks) that he (the father, aka the Grand General) killed the ML's brother. Neither of them seem to know that the brother is chained up by the evil empress.

And she even says several times that she entered the compound believing that she and Jin An were going to die together. She had no expectation of leaving there alive. The first thing she says when she wakes up is, "We're alive!" like she can't believe it.
