They likely cut it down from 21 to 20, feeling that 20 will be sufficient. May help the story to be more compact…
Yeah most people have not been watching on Youku so they probably haven't noticed.

The naming conventions is to some extent the translator's preference and should conform to the official translation when it is available. In the absence of that, maybe the conventions used in the novel can be adopted but I haven't read the novel, maybe someone who has can fix it.

Its not a recent change, its been 20 episodes on Youku since airing. Someone just input it wrongly into MDL.

If anyone is watching this raw like me-- here's a site that recaps each episode https://ninenovel.net/2022/04/01/the-blue-whisper-part-1-%e4%b8%8e%e5%90%9b%e5%88%9d%e7%9b%b8%e8%af%86-episode-19-recap/
It’s actually a Chinese recap that has been machine translated.

Ah that is disappointing… TLB was his only work so far that I thought was quite good. I dropped everything else bc he made the women so silly, not so much bc of his camerawork.

Yeah I think Quippe Quest is just being tongue in cheek, I don't think Ren Jialun is miscast either. But I don't like they way he is shot and the direction at all. I think the director of Under the Power did a much better job capturing his intensity and power aura, which is definitely there but it is on the subtle side. The storytelling also is pretty sloppy - like he comes across more powerful after he loses his tail when the opposite is supposed to happen. The power "levels" between many of the characters are also not consistent and the "rules" of the world seem to be made up as they go along.

Yeah there is a massive Covid outbreak in China right now, Shanghai is in lockdown. Plus advertising is in a big downturn so everyone has cut back hard on spending money on promotional events.

After watching 22, I suspect the evil being in the picture is the remaining essence of a rebel or traitor that Tian Di (Tian Jun's father) and Lishu's father destroyed. He is trying to recover his morta[/immortal form and make them all pay.

I am sorry but Sina is just a media company no different from Baidu. Neither have any association with the production and neither should qualify as an official source. I would think that as the sole broadcasting network Youku must surely qualify as the official source over either Sina or Baidu. Besides, you did say above you would change it if the original network changes it, no? It is quite clear from my link that Youku has combined it for airing purposes and I know MDL strives to be user friendly and make it easy for us…

In any case, can the episode count at least be conformed to Youku’s? Meaning to begin with Episode 23 for Part 2? That would again make it less confusing for users.

The original network Youku does not separate it on their site although the description says Part 2 starts at episode 23 (link below). It is going to be extremely confusing because MDL ep 1 for Part 2 will be ep 23 and ep 2 will be 24 etc across all platforms and in the opening credits of each episode of the drama itself. Nothing will map to the MDL episode count for Part 2.

Does this meet your requirement to combine the two pages? If not, will it be possible to start Part 2 episode count at episode 23?

It is a unfortunate this topic has been escalated in this manner and with all due respect, this is an issue that merits consideration since it is going to recur for c-dramas going forward. Whether to circumvent regulation or for commercial reasons (weak ad market), we are going to see more c-dramas being arbitrarily divided into two parts. I for one have no opinion, rating or review for Part 1 because it is a half told story with all major plot threads left open. In cases like this, I think it makes sense to consider combining both parts, especially if Youku ends up doing so on its platform as well (which I believe it will). In that case, it will be super confusing for future viewers bc they will find 43 episodes of the drama on Youku and wonder whether it is the same drama that comes in two parts on MDL and some reviewers will post reviews under Part 1 and others under Part 2 and there will be two different ratings for what is for all substantive purposes one drama. Just some things to consider, not just for The Blue Whisper but for many c-dramas going forward. Thank you for all your hard work considering the many often times conflicting user requests and I hope you can consider this issue from a broader perspective. I would add that the Chinese sites - Douban, Baike, Weibo, Bilibili etc do not make any distinction between the two parts.

Like many viewers, I don't rate or review a drama until it is over. For this drama that means Part 1 and 2 bc Part 1 is incomplete on every possible level. I also think anything above 8.0 is a pretty good rating but that is just my opinion.

Idk Croton/Huace as well but as I mentioned to you before the overseas IP is not Youku’s (this comes from them directly) so it’s not their issue to deal with.

Idk I took a break mid-way thru Ep 21, its too boring these digressions into side characters. I can only guess that it some kind of dark creature since Tian Shi is sucking the spiritual energy of all the prisoner demons into the picture. Can it be his Shifu?

Ever since international streaming platforms started licensing c-dramas, the production cos started to care a lot more about protecting their IP. Also many jurisdictions have started to regulate streaming media. So the platforms now have to worry about navigating all of this both to preserve value and protect themselves. They usually have to work with local law firms to deal with both, it doesn't justify keeping internal teams due to so many different rules. Huace doesn't do it that often (and neither does Youku) whereas Tencent and iQiyi do and even for them, there are region based access differences, as there are with Netflix and Amazon Prime. It is a lengthy and complicated process. I wouldn't be shocked if when Croton/Huace launch this overseas it still won't be available in every region. If at the time for example they are still negotiating with Netflix/Amazon to license it to them, they may block it in the US. This is a very recent development - they didn't really cared when L&D was aired. Also in the past, when advertising was hot in China, they didn't care that much about losing out on international revenue potential. The 3 top platforms lose more than RMB 3bn combined each quarter and all of the Chinese internet stocks have crashed. No one is going to give this stuff away for free for much longer bc they can't raise money so easily anymore.
