I hear you and I understand the anger but show me where it defines HEAVY OLD STYLED WUXIA = no slo mo action. I get heavy classic wuxia vibes despite the action but I appreciate that it just means different things to different people. To me it is about the eccentric characters and the philosophy and the righteous cause that drives the characters. So far I am more than satisfied with what I am seeing.
Baidu shareholders (understandably) don't want them to support iQiyi. I thought they were going to sell it to Tencent at one point. In my meetings I mostly get updates on big picture stuff from regulation to aggregate drivers and financials. I don't ask about specific titles unless I am personally interested in them and have spare time so you are way ahead of me on pipeline etc. I have been a bit skeptical about the studios but apparently they save a lot of $$$ going in-house. Their rural subs are mostly not paying and they don't count them in the ~104mm subscriber no. They have to do all these tasks/watch ads etc to "buy" viewing time.
Other than Mirror Twin and the Yang2/Lusi one I think everything else still has to spend considerable time in post production and at best is end 2022.
Idk the pipeline as well as you do bc I only keep an eye on period and crime but both Tencent and Youku told me recently that their pipeline isn't that great - between the covid hole, the frozen BLs and the unspoken idol ban and a bunch of stuck dramas that won't get unstuck that quickly in the current regulatory mood. I just think Tencent and Alibaba are much more in the doghouse with the govt than Baidu is and to be fair to iQiyi, they didn't over invest in idol dramas as much bc they just don't have as much money.
Maybe that is why iQiyi is bafflingly bullish about their pipeline every time I speak to them but when I ask what's coming it is pretty much just Mist Theatre and now there is only one left of that. IQiyi built something like 50 in-house studios so I guess they must be churning out a lot of stuff... In any case iQiyi still has lots of cash but they need to break even to be able to list in HK and the US govt is booting all Chinese cos off of the US exchanges so they are panicking. And their biggest institutional shareholder is losing patience with their losses as well so Gong Yu is under a lot of pressure to print green nos.
Until it drops it can be pulled and dramas have been pulled mid-airing as well. YAMG was rumoured to be at risk of that. And Oath of Love was also pulled before it managed to air.

Yeah I am not a fan of the heavy hand of China censors in general but I am delighted that they cracked down on all the fandom and idol actors bc the real seriously good actors are going to get lead roles again. And I absolutely love ZRY and all those actors you mentioned. It is so sad that Chen Kun and Chang Chen are aging out.
Only one small comment, somehow the colours of the drama looks odd…. It’s related to the production quality….?…
I don't mind the color grading - its not overly fake bright like everything else these days. And most importantly no pasty white foundation for the ML.

That was the beginning of the content crackdown that is ongoing. Now is high season until CNY but even for high season it’s a poor showing. Youku for example should also have something S category but nope, nothing and iQ also has nothing post Luoyang. Even their Gold Panning got pulled.
