My understanding is it’s not their choice. It inhibits subscriber growth but bc the govt doesn’t want the broadcasters to go bust. Subscriber growth on the platforms have stagnated for 2 years and all 3 platforms have told me they get paid virtually nothing by the broadcasters. It wasn’t as bad when they had advanced viewership but without that it’s killing them.

I think the budget is over 3 seasons. We will see the numbers soon China Literature should publish something in their full year results.

YAMG hit 2bn views in 5 days (400mm a day) bc were incentivizing Honor of King gamers to watch it. Gamers were really angry they complained they were being forced to watch YAMG to advance in the game and it almost got the show pulled while airing. The view count plummeted to 2 bn over 25 days or 80’mm a day. So it’s inflated almost 5x. The real view count is more like 2.4 bn which is still huge but it’s not 4bn huge. It’s well known what happened.

Yes I feel the same way, I pay less attention to the Douban score and more to the reason for their criticism. I think in this case the low score reflects this not meeting their high expectation and not so much that it is terrible on an absolute basis.
