That childlike kid was the diabolical Chaoyang in the Bad Kids. Great actor.

Lol Darth Vader turns into Pretty in Pink. She is a blunt instrument with no layers besides her dress.
Lol - I am still trying to forget that... thankfully this doesn't get anywhere near as bad as that atrocity...

The father and son dynamics are fascinating. Xiao Xu is obviously grooming his son and just loves it when his Fengnian pushes back and tries to do things his own way. They are also putting on a huge show for all their enemies and baffling them with their unconventional relationship.

Bom dia! I love Brasil, I used to spend a week every January at the Copacabana Hotel in Rio.
|The novel hasn't been published yet so no one knows. But based on his other works, it is likely more focused on just the 3 main characters and probably has less romance. The screenwriter is not on the same level in terms of character writing so you can tell by how one dimensional certain characters are that it is more likely the screenwriters work.

I wouldn’t say this is a light drama. This is a serious political drama with a bunch of hillarious scenes. And…
I agree they are completely different genres. It would be strange for this to be paced like Luoyang bc a true blue wuxia like this is about a hero’s long journey of advancement both spiritually and in martial
ability. Whereas mysteries are about a race against time/stopping the villains before they reach their goal.

1) Has the copper mystery been resolved? I think not, right? What they have uncovered so far weren't what or where…
No the copper mystery has not been fully solved yet. Not all the copper is accounted for. In addition to weapons, I suspect it has been siphoned off for coinage. Coups cost lots of money. I doubt they are making elixir for longevity - more likely poison or something else. In the end I suspect it all ties back to the giant tower that Baili Hongyi’s father was building. That is probably where they make their move.

I do like how the three of them are a team now but between the romantic digressions, new character intros and new subplots the overarching plot has gotten lost. We only had one really strong episode in the last 10,…
This is starting to remind
me of My Heroic Husband which had a very strong first arc but crashed and burned in the second arc with the new characters that couldn’t get traction.

So from now on all costume dramas must make sure maids are sluts.
I suppose writer could have been silent about it but IMHO its not such a big point to render the entire writing as unrealistic. Considering the current mood in China post the Kris Wu scandal, I would think harem tropes like that would be highly unlikely to survive censorship not to mention hugely unpopular.

I am struggling to name even one drama where the ML misbehaves with the maids.

Because truth be told people complain but they secretly like those stereotypes. Give them something different and they are hopelessly lost without the familiar noble idiot, Mary Sue and the noisy girl triangle. As for the action, I hope they speed it up later on but so far it doesn't bother me either.

I see a lot of mixed reviews....should I watch this?
I am really enjoying it but I love this kind of humor and characterisation as well as the old school wuxia feel. The action is heavily slo motion - I think it is an attempt to depict the essence of the kind of martial art he ends up practicing and I expect (hope?) it will pick up later on.

So have we moved on from the melodrama with GBZ now? All that moping and constant flashbacks was really tedious…
I suspect these kind of filler scenes will occupy most of the middling episodes its just par for the course in most c-dramas.

I think they will speed up in later episodes. The director said it is intended just for audiences to appreciate the artistry and beauty in the actors' movements.

Best acting so far on both their parts
I am not a huge fan of all these siblings coming out of the woodwork. Even though the 16th Night episode was great, the writing is flirting with going in the wrong direction.
