This is too common an explanation/excuse for dumb characters. To me, it is just a sign of super lazy scriptwriting - start a character out as stupid as you can make them and then lo and behold - they grew a lot. A good writer will make a smart character grow tremendously in a more nuanced way. Its much more effective but a lot harder work.

Yeah that's kind of hard bc this is by the same producer... Tbh the entire production looks like to make a quick buck on the back of L&R with a cut and paste of part of the hit L&R cast and the god awful twin flower legend storyline with a Cheng Yi thrown in. That said, I really like the SFL - she is complicated and interesting and pretty much the only reason I am casually continuing with this.

The FL has only one good expression... pissed off as hell. I guess there is massive room for growth but maybe I be dead of old age by then.

I am sure they will eventually but Netflix doesn't pay much for Asian content, especially if it is not exclusive. Sometimes Tencent and the Chinese platforms like to blame the regulators to the fans but it is actually because they delay it themselves when they can't sell enough ads on the show to justify airing. Monthly subscription fees in China of about $3.50/month is too low to support a super expensive production like Immortality without substantial ads or VVIP purchases.

I think they are just so busy working through the about to air dramas that they are not bothering with what is already airing. Geez once this gets through Tencent should just stop f-ing around and kick it out asap. There is also some delay caused by advertisers bc apparently KW is naming and shaming his accomplices and none of the advertisers want to back any shows where the celebrities could be dragged down by scandal. Its a huge mess. smh.

I am actually shocked that show didn't get taken down. Tencent was harshly criticized by the govt mouthpiece papers for gaming addiction and Honor of Kings was specifically mentioned and criticized for being too addictive. I am not at all btw saying that it deserves to be taken down.

From what I hear this was already reviewed many times so lets not imagine the worst. It could be they are just making sure Tencent did the required edits properly and are only taking a hard look at the promotional material and trailers.

Agree - it is just that the regulators didn't differentiate they are pretty much doing another look at everything they approved before the scandal broke so this one, like many others got caught up in it too.

Yeah sometimes it makes so much sense to de-Tang the drama... I will give this another try next couple days but I couldn't even watch 1 episode the FL really irritates me.

Changing the dynasty to a fictional one means they don't have to strictly follow history.

It doesn't have any direct impact but there is a huge negative backlash against toxic fandom in China and ALL idol dramas have been held up/have gone through extra layers of scrutiny.
