Lol... don't get me started it is my pet peeve. There are many terrific Western adolescent dramas out there that show how you can portray youth and immaturity without sounding like you sucked a helium balloon and regressed to age 6! But yes Bai Lu is one of the ones we can always count on to avoid those unfortunate out-dated characterizations.

ikr... I personally use the mute test... as in once I have to mute the FL 5 times, I drop. It works like a charm, I find I never waste more than 5/6 episodes on dramas I don't like. I was a bit nonplussed when I realized the FL was mute and then I relaxed... like its Bai Lu she knows better than to be act like a child...
I havent watched it yet but will the female lead be mute for the whole drama?

They should make more FLs mute and for entirely different reasons... I think it may have made a huge difference wrt the last 3 dramas I dropped... lol!
It is the acting is excellent but there are some tough and dark themes. I can't watch too many episodes at once. No wonder they only release one at a time.

Thank you for this post. I went and did some digging - the shrine is part of a bunch of tourist sites in the heart of Tokyo, pretty much on the grounds of the Imperial Palace, which is a massive place. To my aghast, I realize that I most likely have been on the grounds of the complex although I am positive I never entered the shrine itself. It was during my first business trip to Tokyo and till this day, I never realized that is where I went, I thought I was going to visit the imperial palace and museum. Heck I didn't just go, I even brought my folks who were meeting me for a long weekend. Had I known, however I would have gone in bc I want to see who these war criminals were and how Japan romanticized history. We Chinese should visit to see the ugly side of their history instead of just admiring their beautiful architecture, culture and wonderful food and pretending the ugly past didn't happen. I am also quite sure that many Chinese people who have been visiting Tokyo in droves have been at least in the vicinity of the shrine it is a tourist hot spot not some obscure hard to get to location. Like me, they may think they were just wandering around on the grounds of the palace. I have similar photos in front of cherry blossom trees on the grounds. Luckily I am not a Chinese actor to be banned forever as a result.

But now that they are no longer that newly married and it is kind of his job, maybe there will be flexibility in the future for this to happen. I don't really care in historicals bc I don't think people way back then actually kissed Western style so a fake one is good enough. But for modern romance dramas well, let's just say it would make for a very unconvincing drama... So I am here just for the historical, the modern continuation I don't really care that much about.
