I believe it varied by dynasty and the family's social status and if the legal wife has children of her own. Ming Dynasty was known to be pretty atrocious in terms of treatment of concubines and differentiated the social status of their children, which is what this show tries to show. But I don't know exactly how accurate the depiction is.

Yeah that was true for a short period last year due to covid. But China has more or less beaten covid, many people go around freely without masks anymore nowadays and business and social activity there has returned to normal. Most actors actually consider the pay for dramas very low considering the long hours during filming but they do it to be popular and win ad campaigns, concerts etc.

Actually you are spot on, the drawings is mostly to save money. Also Tencent specifically targets a younger viewer base that tends to love manhua - two birds with one stone. So far, the scenes they used drawings for are not scenes that typically get censors all worked up, they are just costly to shoot. I hear they had a really huge budget for Immortality so maybe they won't do that there.

I think she must know or at least suspect. She saw he had his eyes blindfolded the moment she opened her eyes. Why would he do that when he is about to perform a tricky and painful extraction unless he didn't want to see anything he shouldn't. That was a super lame lie about not liking blood. Later on she busted him or rather they busted each other for knowing more than they each are willing to let on during the drinking game. They are both smart characters, I hope they remain that way.
