Same genre. Same writer. Grey character(s). Cultivation sects fighting over after an artifact... Jianghu sects fighting after an artifact.... Masks...
I am also someone who never got into TU. I found it mind numbingly boring from the get go. The way the story was told was not good even though I appreciated the characters and could see it was based on a good novel. WOH story unfolds in an exciting and mysterious manner from the beginning and the two leads are in character from the get go. The script writing is vastly superior with poetic and literary allusions that are very cleverly done to convey layers of meaning beyond the spoken words but that is something that maybe the Chinese speakers appreciate more.
In any case, I think its natural to compare the two dramas and some will love both, some will hate both and some will prefer one over the other. It doesn't matter, different tastes and opinions are what makes the world go round.

LMAO... did she really say that? I didn't watch the whole thing, I just walked into the bit up to the costumes... dang... maybe I should watch the whole thing...
I agree completely that this is more about the relationship and how it develops. And I think it is very consistent in how it portrays how restrictive and stifling that era was towards women
