But usually almost every drama set in this time period is a communist propaganda drama. But the first episode…
First few episodes were definitely more spy thriller heavy than propaganda heavy. It is hard to avoid it completely though because in this genre anyone who risks life and limb like that is a patriot.

Hi, what do you mean "closet propaganda by the ccp"? Thanks.
I am also very interested in seeing if that is the case given recent events in HK.

I feel like this will be hardcore closet propaganda by the ccp
Oh I really hope not...

Guo Jia manages to stand out among a long list of brilliant characters (and actors), and the actor is every reason…
Just the scariest Cao Cao I have ever seen.

I've fallen a bit behind the show. Just finished ep 37. The harem conflicts arc had been boring as ever. Why are…
Tyvm for this - I was waiting to see how the love the story was handled before deciding whether to continue. What a shame.

Did you mean Simon Yam? I really like that guy, his acting is top notch. He played villain roles and even though…
Heheh yes Simon Yam - Freudian slip - I used to think of him as so super yummy. He was a great hero in a really old version Heaven Sword - I almost dropped the latest version cause the actor that played that role was so not yummy. :(

Oh excellent article!! And so glad you went with oldies but goodies, especially since we are inundated with articles extolling the current idols. Those pixs must be so much harder to find - totally loving seeing Ken Chang's young photos. I would add Simon Yum, Chang Chen and Chen Kun to your list. I am tempted to mention Mark Chao as well but maybe not, I think he still too much of a relatively current idol.

Title Love of Thousand Years Spoiler
Can someone explain to me what exactly happened in the end?Did the lamp allow her to rewrite history or something? It…
It is not that clear but this is what I think:

The lamp may have turned back the clock and enabled them to start over again, this time without demon forces and it is significant that in this new or parallel universe the second prince is now the oldest prince so the bad guys don't exist. Either that or it sucked them into the painting that JY made ( Xiao Chuan went into it once and saw her family as they were before) but I think more likely time was turned back and they get a do over. That is where Yan Yan's identity becomes separated from that Xiao Chuan. That is why Yan Yan starts to forget JY and that is why Yan's Yan's maid's name is not Xiao Chuan but Xiao Chu or something like that. After all if none of the bad things happened, then Yan Yan never became the Xiao Chuan, who is actually the girl JY fell in love with and actually had a relationship with. If they somehow turned back time then all of that gets erased because it never happened (Yan Yan starts to forget as her new life takes a different turn once time passes the moment she became Xiao Chuan). All JY can do is to preserve and reunite with a memory of his Xiao Chuan in the painting. But I don't know if they are both just shadows or memories of who they were because he is an immortal he was never supposed to be with a mortal girl. I think it is a bit of a sad happy ending.

I got the same feel i watched till ep 10 and dropped it.. the making of the plot is not that intriguing only those…
The second case was the most obvious. The third is a lot better and then after that it is more of an adventure that leads up to the final solution.

as a fan of both leads, their chemistry is really really great but i feel like it was semi wasted with the way…
I know... the second leads were like just the two most mind numbingly boring people in the world. Match made in heaven.

Is it a pure bromance or is it a censored romance? :)
Just pure bromance - they each have their own romance.

Title The Rise of Phoenixes Spoiler
No happy ending.
The ending really sucked and was not in character. But its literally only the last 5-10 minutes. I enjoyed all the rest and it is still one of my top 3 dramas ever. Had the ending been less bad it would be my favorite.

She sounds like me, nagging all the time XD
Heh ignore me - just venting a bit - until now, Dong ‘er was the only non annoying woman in the whole show! I hope our boys get over their lovers spat soon cause high pitched female voices just kill me.

Finished the series and can't get over how handsome the ML is! HahaAnyway, 1st series of the leads for me and…
Although I like the FL I think the face swap was a mistake. The first girl was much more beautiful, tragic and engaging. She also had the best scene in the entire drama (the opening dance). And I think she would have made a better looking couple with the ML. This actress just looks pudgy and like a real peasent girl not a princess. Major mis-casting. Don't get me wrong, she is funny and likable in her own way I would have been fine with her if she was the princess from the start. They should have just never put her up for comparison with a much more lovely girl. It like they let me have a Bugatti for a day and then told me to make do with a Porsche afterwards.
