LOL welcome to C-Drama! You just gotta get used to fast forward. This one wasn't bad. Watch Legends and then you will know what I mean.

Wow that's excellent. Amazon and Viki have the best quality I pretty much watch everything there if I can! I just hope they get everything up until the end, which I am happy to rewatch in HD qaulity.

There are 56 episodes. You can find the links below my review to the last few. At the very least you should watch the last one.

I think so far Liu Hao Ran’s leading ladies are all very annoying. I usually always like them in the beginning…
Sadly I have to agree - the Princess is really a limp noodle. I have this terrible fear that she is one of those super vain actresses that is so obsessed with making sure the camera angle only captures her prettiest and msot sweet expression that its the same three angles. Every time. Sigh! As much as Yuran can be a bit childish, she is fun and completely uninhibited for the camera and dares to show us her many faces. I am only at 29, I really don't want to see more of the Princess. She is killing me with her sweetnesss. And honestly her character is super boring. More of her and I will drop this soon.

Can all the Amazon and Viki users please also as a huge favor ask for Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional) subtitles as well? Netflix has all three. The best quality shows are on all these sites but only Netflix has Chinese subtitle options. I can't always hear Tan Qi and Li Bi properly and it would be so much better to have Chinese subtitles as an option on Amazon.

It was in 46 - I went back to watch it was so fleeting I missed it the first time. Agree with your conclusion and it makes more sense to me now why he killed the guy.

I don't remember the tatoo part (which episode?)- maybe you are referring to a different part? I was thinking of the part right after the emperor was taken and everyone was plotting what to do if he doesn't return.

From memory (pls correct if wrong) - Chancellor Lin corrupted a general in the dragon army, which is the emperor's guard. I assume they report to the crown prince in his absence. This dude kept trying to kill the emperor and framing the crown prince for it . I think Prince Yong has no army, he asked the Chancellor for manpower to "search" for his father and was told to go home and lie low instead as he makes for an obvious suspect. But they already formed an alliance so pretty much same thing.

ep 42 for me. The lantern's transformation was both imaginative and beautiful. The VFX throughout the episode…
I agree, it has to be 42. Besides being stunning on a big screen ALMOST all the main antagonists and protagonists are still alive and primarily featured. Only Li Bi was pretty much MIA, which continued to the end to my dismay. 23/24 is also worthy of consideration.

Ok... I can't believe I just binge watched the last 12 in row after putting this on hold because life got in the way for awhile. I definitely liked the second half a lot better than the first half. Mysteries and conspiricies are my first love so I enjoyed pulling at the threads until the plot was revealed. They didn't exactly keep to the unspoken bargain of hiding all the clues in plain sight so I won't say it was the best I have seen in this genre but for me, it was good enough. I thought the philosophical and political tropes were ok maybe a bit melodramatic but still managed to squeeze a few tears from me. That said, the ending was a bit anti-climatic and potentially even one plot twist too many. I get it that most of China watches dramas on handheld devices which is such a waste for something that was so beautifully shot like this. That said, of all episodes I would certainly not have chosen to air the last episode at cinemas. Of all the magnificent, explosive episodes to show in a theater that was just not the one. In fact it could be quite fun to play the if you could show only one episode at a theater whicih one would it be?

That speech was complete BS. The emperor is a sociopath - a master manipulator and deflector. He neatly turns his critics against themselves and sidesteps the whole issue of why he preys on his young.
