Top 5 shows means nothing and has nothing to do with quality. When there are no dramas airing during low season, really bad, cheap dramas can top the charts. This is high season bc of school holidays in China - everyone is pushing out their top, most expensive dramas. And anywhere in the Top 5 is good enough for all the platforms behind them to make money bc ad slots are most expensive this time of year. Just ignore the ignorant posts. The Douban comments on this drama so far are very positive.

This is pretty good but won't be in that league. But you could try Litchi Road and Fearless Blood. And maybe Strange Tales of Tang S1 and S2.

@budoboo very well called it an undeveloped romance bc she is mortal. I also loved that part where he struggled with himself though I was not 100pct sure if it was not to hug her back or not to extricate himself. But I think the moment moved him and had impact on him; that he is not exactly indifferent to her, just steadfast in his life choice. I also sensed that the first time he left her. I guess these undeveloped or could have been feelings are what grow into heart obsessions over time. The longer he lives, the greater the regret for that moment in time that cannot be attained again no matter how long he lives.

I feel quite bad for her. There are not one but two smart male leads in this.

Honestly she is not the best but far from the worst either. But she is American, her mannerisms and expressions are quite different and she is not stick thin. She doesn't walk around with a beatific smile and gaze lovingly at the ML with a deadpan wide-eyed Bambi expression. Thus there is no "chemistry" and she looks grumpy or constipated when she frowns or even dares to move her face muscles. She definitely doesn't fit the standard c-drama FL we are used to seeing I can understand why some of it comes across as too modern or out of place. But I don't mind it I think its quite refreshing I got bored with Bambi eons ago.

As for dragging, I don't know what that means exactly. Its fair to compare dramas in any discussion. Otherwise why have a comment section?

I don't love the poison trope but I think it was done to give the FL a role in the ensemble team. She is the muscle and he is the brains. Otherwise she is going to be completely useless and he is going to do everything.

Every case - I was rolling my eyes. But the final switch out was completely mustahil!!!

I will have to pause the next time I want to rant about platforms or dramas not respecting audience intelligence.

CD also boleh-la! The mustahil "crime solving" was hilarious. But I think funny was not what the writers were going for... CD did have a great cast.

I think a lot of us are fine with Julia Xiang's performance. Its just the same voices whining about the same stuff about her over and over and over again.

I am not a gamer myself but I wouldn't be surprise if there is a game licensing in progress. It could be however that Youku is not the owner of the IP, they just licensed it for the drama. Tencent on the other hand owns a ton of IP via China Literature,

I think this is a much better mystery series than CD, where the FL was pulling conclusions out of thin air. Its just that Li Landi is a very good actress (much better than Julia Xiang who is a rookie by comparison) she can sell absurd lines and ridiculous actions and make the audience nod approvingly. More power to her for that but CD was also a FL led story so she got all the best lines and was the main spotlight. This drama is squarely male lead led. And with not one, but two super smart male leads, there is just not much scope for the FL to shine. Her role is to be the spunky girl who can fight (and she pulls that off well) and bring the two massive battling egos together. Its a completely different character set up. Clearly iQiyi felt the audience was smart enough to be discerning and understand and appreciate the differences. Sadly they may have over estimated us. As for all the thirsty romance watchers who haunt every comment section, we get inundated with romances all year round. There is more than enough to satisfy their thirst elsewhere so the violins play very softly when this one is not doing it for them.

Yeah. Quite sure they didn't already shoot multiple seasons for this. But the drama is not over yet and they should still be selling ad slots. If it ends up profitable enough then its possible they continue with it but I wouldn't put high hopes. Youku has deep pockets but their new CEO has put a profits first KPI on all departments including digital media.
