This suggests Beiming's past is a deep secret related to Haiya. His master who must have been at the massacre must have rescued him and named him this way. He was angry and chastised Beiming for getting involved in the Yesha case bc he knows it is associated with Haiya, a case the emperor covered up. On his return Beiming is humbled and full of remorse; a man who lost everything. He is no longer the insufferable genius detective and condescending fiancee, just someone determined to unravel this conspiracy and clear his name. He also feels guilty because he seized the case when he didn't need to and it indirectly led to his master's death.
