The story would be wonky if there is a different set of rules for Lanxiang just because she is the FL.

The entire drama is about how no one has free will when it comes to marriage - Jinqi’s betrothal to ShenJialan, his marriage to Xingtang, both Xingtang’s marriages; even Han Liang asked her parents and not Lanxiang. Jinqi could have simply taken Lanxiang as his concubine the night we didn’t see him carry her back to her room. Her status in his household from then would be unbearable. But instead he set her free because he meant to make her his legitimate wife and give her some power when she deals with his family. When she thinks about that I am sure she will look at it in a different light. I am not saying it doesn’t suck that SHE didn’t have any say in the matter. I am saying it sucked for everyone, including the men that THEY didn’t have any say in the matter. That simply was the social norm of the time. And anyone who thinks this is a romantic drama has been watching a different drama. This is a classic ancient family saga cum social commentary that has some romance in it.

Maybe she will hear Jiu’er is in the capital.
