Title Key to the Phoenix Heart Spoiler
I never saw The Story Of Pearl Girl, but I know how it ended. It seems this drama will have a similar ending for…
It won't be that similar at all bc I didn't give two hoots what happened to the couple in PG. The leads spend most of their time apart in that drama - there was limited chemistry and no development. It wasn't a love story just a giant pity party.

And they are not likely to even give us a baby Wuyi to console ourselves with... I hope we are so so wrong and that doc really kicks butt bc... what else has she been good for in the whole script???

I have never really watched a Cao Dun drama I really loved. They are all long winded, meandering and boring.

Well arguably Wenxi did more direct harm to them than ED Qin did - she just started a false rumour about them colluding with the Right Wise King. Knowing it wasn't true, Wenxi seize upon the rumour, fabricated evidence of its truth and indicted and executed them.

As for Wuyi's behavior and absolute trust in Li Mao, it is his biggest character failing. He looks at the guy through rose coloured glass. Even after he stabs him in the gut. I just can't....

but what if he truly capable to be a just ruler?
I don't want the throne for Wuyi either. I am just objecting to his choice and pointing out that putting Li Mao there is not going to set him free. Its going to be a pouting royal pain in the ass.

Cao Dun is another Wong Kar Wai - he has no sense of time. If we see Ai Mi's drama with him before she turns 21, I'd be shocked. I also think he is a really crappy story teller even though his cinematography is fantastic. Not sure he has that much value to add to Ai Mi's acting.

Nope not at all. He is still a waffle.

I’m sorry but are we just acting like Li Mao didn’t just stab WuYi and twist the knife into WuYi to torture…
Oh no, I have NOT forgotten that. That was the incident that firmly put Li Mao on my NO list for emperor. I know that is probably where they are going but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

My main problem with Li Mao isn't that he decided to fight for the throne. It's that he really can't think for…
My thoughts exactly.

I don't think he is. His instinct is not to do the right thing. It is to go with whoever leans the most heavily on him. Poor Xiao Wuyi will never really be free with him on the throne, he is going to have to pop up to rein him in all the time. Exhausting.

This!
"Even though Ai Mi is still quite young, it’s precisely because she’s young that every emotion she expresses is so direct, not overthought, and it fits the character in that moment perfectly."

Yeah I don't love the direction this narrative has taken either. I don't have such a huge problem with Wuyi throwing his emperor father under the bus bc I think there is a grain of truth - the Lu and An families were innocent. And yes ED of Northern Qin threw shade at them first and Wenxi grabbed that as an excuse to rein in the noble class. Wuyi is making the point to Li Mao that just because Wenxi was his father doesn't make everything he did right.

As for Li Mao as emperor I agree wholeheartedly that he is not fit, neither by bloodline and nor by ability nor by moral backbone. I just think they have to go with him at this point bc they never introduced an alternate candidate. And yes Huaigui is getting away with murder except he won't ...... Where things stand, I think this drama is going to be difficult to end well. I still think Princess Weiyong the ending is still quite likely.

Michael Miu played him. Not multiple wives but a charming playboy. Lots of women "friends". Won't work today. But I don't measure ancient characters by today values and Jin Yong's Wei Xiaobao is still one of my all time favourite protagonists - I just wouldn't marry him!!!😂😂😂

I am fine if Wuyi walks away I just scratched off Li Mao after he stabbed Wuyi the gut. It was cowardly and despicable.

In a fairytale maybe. In reality - ancient Chinese saying - as long as there is food on the table no one cares who is emperor. China was never and is still not a democracy the common people didn’t have a say and didn’t care that much as long as their livelihood was ok.
