Not sure if the writer plans to finish it. Maybe they want to continue the series of strange cases. There are unfortunately a lot of unfinished Chinese web novels. They get paid by the chapter/words read so when they have a bit of a hit novel they like to keep going for years. I am not a fan of wishy washy endings either but for this one I think it was quite fitting.
