Actually the more I watch this, the more I think this was all grandma's fault. She forced her kids to bow to society's rules and as a result two unhappy couples threaten to sink her family - 1. Elder Bro married a woman he is cold to whose resentment is scorched earth while he spends his life mourning Ms Gu, 2. Second Bro marries said Ms Gu when he'd rather marry Ms Qiao causing their combined discontent to pollute the next generation and 3. even poor Ms Han whose only crime was to be rich with no status gets pulled into their shit show. I know grandma looks so benign but yeah, I have mixed feelings about her.

I think "uncle" is the one she loves. So I hope she ends up with him. Its also in Master Han's best interest. Bc if I were her and they forced me to marry Master Han, I'd starve myself and him at the same time.

I can understand where you are coming from bc even though she clearly fears and resents him, their chemistry as seen in flashbacks was far more romantic whereas her chemistry with Shenyuan is as you point out, siblings or platonic. But relationships are multi-faceted and of course the passion part of it is super important but by itself, it doesn't last. There is also the family, unquestioning trust, friendship aspect of it that does last. They can already check the latter box though not the former.

So that they can waste our time with 1-2 episodes of the bucolic village buffoon and/or the florid faced farm girl being match made with her/him.

He's a good actor even though sometimes he hams it up too much.
