In Chinese, they use the name of the ethnic group, so Han people. In English however, they all tend to get lumped together.

In Chinese, they use the name of each ethnic group, so Han people. In English however, they all tend to get lumped together. In practical daily use today, it doesn't make a difference they are all lumped together. But when you are talking about history of course a distinction has to be made between the different ethnic groups that comprised the different dynasties.

As I was explaining above it depends on the context upon which you use the word. You are right if you are talking about Chinese nationality it includes all ethnic groups in China. But not if you are talking about ethnicity. For example, Dilraba is often described as a Uighur actress and as a Chinese actress. She is both but when you are talking about ethnicity or race, she is Uighur and would probably object to being wrongly described as being of Han Chinese descent. Many Manchus continue to use Manchurian names for example that are distinctly different from Han Chinese names. They have real ethnic minority status and privileges in China. The many ethnic minority groups in China are proud of their distinct ethnicity and culture and do not like being generally lumped in as Chinese, esp if you are talking about race as opposed to citizenship.

You are really confused. You don't know the difference between ethnicity and citizenship. Even if you move to China you will NEVER be ethnic Chinese but you can be a Chinese national/citizen (except actually it would be practically impossible for you to acquire Chinese citizenship). Go read a dictionary and don't waste my time anymore.

They are not ethnic Chinese they are ethnic Manchus and they are Chinese nationals. Just like Chinese Americans are ethnic Chinese and they are American nationals. I don't know how to further dumb it down so you get it.

No it is not the same at all you are mixed up with your analogies. The Manchus are the largest ethnic minority in China. They are Chinese nationals who identify themselves as Manchus just like the Uighurs identify themselves as Uighur and their ethnicity is recognised by the Chinese government. They have their own language and script which is the Mongol language and it was the official language of the Qing court. It is NOT the same as Chinese. Best be clear about it rather than risk being accused of trying to erase their culture, language and roots.

Yes the Manchus are not Han Chinese. There is Chinese meaning the nationality, which includes all the ethnic minorities including the Manchus. And then there is Chinese meaning the ethnicity which does not include any of them. I am for example ethnic Chinese but I am not a Chinese citizen and so I am not a Chinese national.

Producers are always so big about presenting dramas about how strong and powerful women are. I would LOVE to see…
Cixi was a nasty and stupid woman and not a role model and in any case she was a Manchu and Qing is technically not a Han Chinese dynasty. Ming was the last Han Chinese dynasty. In any case, this drama is set in an early dynasty, probably shortly after the fall of Qin. During this time, women were very free and independent. It is not inaccurate that someone from a military family like Concubine Ning is trained in swordplay and Li Rong can have so much authority and come and go as she pleases as well. Consort Mi and even Qin Shihuangdi's mother pretty much did as they liked and were quite wild according to unofficial history. In fact Consort Mi was one of the first dowagers in history and her power was no less than that of Cixi during her time. It is only much later in starting from the dreadful Song and Ming dynasties that women became so oppressed and powerless.

To me the best is still the 1983 version. However the 2017 version was closest adaptation to novel. I feel this…
There is a digitally enhanced 1983 version but you have to subscribe to MyTVB to watch it.

erotic dreams.... Not the way to impress a potential father-in-law.
CDL.I even assured someone not to worry about her casting bc she is just gonna lie there like a log the whole time. 😁😁😁
But I have a sinking feeling I am wrong and she's gonna be quite lively.

I think it depends on the show. Youku buys most of its drama content from independent production studios. Both Tencent and iQiyi have their own studios so they have more in-house productions. Most of Youku's in-house studios are used by Alibaba Pictures for movies.

She's a good actor but this plot design is very similar to Kunning Palace where ZLH was also the lead and unfortunately…
