From the schedule, it looks like the story is just going to keep on going so I am going to head back to the main thread rather than jump around from one chapter to another since the next parts are so short. Plus for my Year in Review I don't want to double count this drama so I will only mark the main 60 episode page as complete.

I think she was first attracted to SRQ and he would have been her first choice if that were possible but it was…
I kind of don't care. As far as I am concerned the drama is the drama and the novel is the novel. And I don't need to see the FL in a positive light to enjoy the story. That's so boring Walt Disney!

Geez why are they spoiling Qiu Qianren??? WTF are they thinking???
Why tell the audience they are twins? How stupid is this director? They should let the audience be as shocked as Huang Rong was when she discovers they are twins!!! OMG what a bunch of clowns!!! 🤡🤡🤡

They needed to show YK to be an asshole, but at least slightly intrigued by Nianci, and her to have some reason…
Mom came and went so fast I can barely remember her!😅😂😂

The 1983 cast set the bar very high to be honest....Barbara still the best Huang RongFelix is still the best Guo…
I can't disagree with any of that. I do enjoy some parts of this and most adaptations but I have dropped almost every other version partway through. I think the most recent adaptation Heaven Sword and Side Story of Fox Volant is the only recent Jin Yong adaptation that I watched from start to finish.

I am the same and I honestly still cringe every time I hear Rong'er. Its Yung'yi - OMG!!! It was really challenging naming my nieces bc they spell their name using the Cantonese pinyin but their school pronounces their name in Mandarin. So my dad had to choose names for them that sound nice in both Cantonese and Mandarin. It was not easy.
She used Jing Gogo I think in ep 20 or 21 at the part he collapsed after coming out of the hidden room in Niujia Village. Right before her dad more or less agreed to accept Guo Jing. I can tell Bao Shangen has obviously been doing her homework and studied the 1983 adaptation. Unlike Ci Sha that insisted he didn't watch any other versions and managed to write a thousand word thesis on a simple character like Guo Jing!🤦🏻‍♀️

In truth, the 1983 version was a masterpiece that did not need to be remade. Jin Yong was very involved in it and chose the cast himself. Barbara Yung was completely unknown she wasn't even an actress but Jin Yong said she is Wong Yung as he imagined her. Its like the Harry Potter movies are now about 20 years old and they are not remade every 5 years and no one would ever think of remaking Nirvana in Fire or Joy of Life either for example. Yet Jin Yong's dramas keep getting remade every 5-6 years because the truth is they have never managed to make a good Mandarin version of any one of them. All of these stories were written in Cantonese for a Cantonese paper and a Cantonese audience. They should just give up and hire a good HK director and screenwriter and get it remade in Cantonese. It is not meant to be made in Mandarin. All the names of people and places and even the martial arts sounds off. Cantonese is a language in and of itself. Half of Jin Yong's famous lines get erased bc they just don't sound right in Mandarin. And the ones that survive the adaptation just sound off in Mandarin. China needs to embrace and revive local dialects not try to erase them like that. And its impossible with Cantonese because it is a language in and of itself and closer to the authentic language that was spoken in the ancient Chinese court than Mandarin ever will be.

I will also note that in the episode of Niujia village when Guo Jing is injured, Bao Shengan slips and calls him Jing gogo instead of Jing gege.

" 2024 just showed him to be an asshole."
That's called dumbing down. 😂😂😂

I didn't read the novel and I have skipped half the novel comments bc they are spoilers. I am happy to just stick with the drama's narrative and not try to second guess how the adaptation unfolds by cross comparing with the novel.

I think we must be watching different dramas. I don't think this is a female empowerment drama intended to shit on men. On the contrary, Li Rong is written in the most unflattering way possible to women in power and her character is VERY unpopular and widely criticised while audience empathy far and wide is for PWX. But in any case, if that's the way you wish to see it, its your prerogative. I can just as easily argue this is written by a writer that hates women. But I don't think that is the case either. They are both flawed characters - you can like or dislike one or the other without having to make it into some kind of feminist or chauvinist narrative agenda.

I like power struggle only if it’s well done. If it’s not it’s just dumb. Unfortunately most power struggle…
I hope you are right but Rao Jun has never failed to let me down.

I think he did more than that but I can’t be sure. And the character chart relationship is very simple and looks dumbed down.

Luckily there is a novel which I didn’t read but hopefully Rao Jun doesn’t try to change it too much. So far I can tell he may have dumbed down some stuff but it mostly makes sense so far.

Their outfits and hairstyles in a way seem similar to the ones in Love Like The Galaxy. Are they set in the same…
It’s for sure early dynasty pre-silk, probably around time of LLTG but since they are both fictional dynasties it’s impossible to tell.

Political power struggleOne thing i dislike about costume/historical dramas. etc. you get my drift is the power…
I like power struggle only if it’s well done. If it’s not it’s just dumb. Unfortunately most power struggle in drama is not well done. This one is only very mediocre but at least it’s not yet dumb. But it’s Rao Jun so don’t hold iyour breath bc he is one of the worst screenwriters out there. Just pray he is too lazy to change this too from the novel.
