To me the best is still the 1983 version. However the 2017 version was closest adaptation to novel. I feel this…
It is really not LOCH unless its the 1983 OST.

Wouldn't worry about it - they almost never shoot pregnant FLs mid-drama.

I think her reaction is realistic. She is a powerful princess, someone who is raised to lack empathy for and insight into others. And she still remembers she loved SRQ for most of her past life. She needs time to figure it all out.

Lol... yes it is true. She is contrary. Its a messy situation bc I think both men love her. But SRQ has to consider Su family in every move he makes. Whereas PWX's family is just not important enough to be a threat to anyone. He is the best husband for the princess. She just needs time to see that for herself.

Yeah it really made it so much harder for women to intervene anymore in palace events bc they needed to be carried around. And the poor peasant women whose lives were hard enough could be married off against their will and couldn't even run away. My great grand aunt had bound feet - even after unbinding for many years they were barely 4 inches. Horrible.

Yes I understand... its just Sima Qian was not the most unbiased historian and some of his writings, esp about Qin Shihuangdi cracked me up.

Indeed but this also bc there are always also men (and other women) in history that were also open minded and tolerant. Not everyone was oppressive.

Yes I know that Sima Qian did not like Qin Shihuangdi and wrote him to be a monster in history with a wanton harlot of a mother and spread wild history that he wasn't even his father's son.

Its actually tragic the extent of the historical backlash and over reaction to one or two powerful women in history. Song dynasty was also when they started binding feet of court dancers and by Qing dynasty it became widely adopted by peasants!πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Continuing the discussion on powerful historical princesses, Li Rong looks like she is loosely inspired by Princess Pingyang of Western Han, sister of Emperor Wu. From the costumes, the period matches as well:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Pingyang_(Han_dynasty)
I would also add that as diving deeper into the pages, as I suspected there were a number of powerful and politically active Han Chinese princesses in history including Emperor Wu's daughter. So Li Rong is far from some unrealistic invention of wishful thinking feminist revisionist history fiction writers.

Yes indeed she was loved by the Tibetians to the point she pretty much became a legendary figure. Unfortunately ancient Chinese history as recorded by Sima Qian was largely focused on male figures with a few notable exceptions. But that is changing as more is being unearthed.
And btw, do you read The Sixth Tone? Its a fantastic Chinese publication in English and think it is something you may enjoy.

People in this part of the world are able to point out and discuss ethnic differences without making them racist. China embraces the diversity and culture of its ethnic minority groups contrary to the popular Western narrative that they try to erase and Sinicize them - which is ironically what you are trying to do! I only pointed out matters of historical fact often written about, without any negative or derogatory comments. Those were all made by you. Only someone with a nasty racist mind would imply intentions that don't exist and try to impose their misguided woke judgements on other people. Go re-read the posts for yourself and see who should feel embarrassed and who is actually doubling down.

Women were progressively oppressed after Wu Tzetian's reign. One of Emperor Renzong of Song's missions in life was to make sure no woman can ever rise to a position of such frightening power again as he also chafed under the yoke of his own stepmother Empress Liu's regency. Wu Tzetian's daugther Princess Taiping was a powerful political figure who came dangerously close to usurping her nephew Li Longji. She was probably the most powerful princess in history. Princess Wencheng was another powerful Tang princess who married a Tibetian King. There were many non-Han (i.e, Khitan, Tangut etc) dynasties like Liao who were also more egalitarian. They had a few powerful princesses and female figures in their history it is just that their recorded history is spottier so we don't hear much about them. I think Tang Yan portrayed such a Liao princess/queen a few years ago in a drama. I am not saying Li Rong is super realistic but if you read the unofficial history going back to Qin empire and before, women were much more free and had a lot more power although they definitely did not rule the world. From the costumes and styling, this looks a lot like around the time of Qin or shortly thereafter.

That is not what I am trying to do at all. It is important however in any discussion of Chinese history bc of the country's evolution. Even Western historians emphasise Cixi is Manchurian and Qing is a Manchu dynasty. You can't understand or explore the history of that period without understanding that. Go read some history instead of running around impugning all kinds of not present motives on other people. You are actually one the most racist, misogynist, sexist commentators I have seen on this site in a long time. If you can't make civil posts, don't expect any replies or be surprised to find yourself BLOCKED.
