I believe the official drama chart has wrongly described her and King Cheng as the emperor's maternal cousins. But a novel reader yesterday explained that they are half siblings of the emperor, which makes more sense considering her title Grand Princess and his title King Cheng. Most likely they are older than the emperor but their mother was only a concubine and not the empress. Usually as early as a crown prince is named, and definitely by the time he ascends the throne, all of his brothers must leave the capital and remain in their fiefs, so as not to be a threat to the throne. We see King Cheng is bemoaning being banished to a border fief where he can't even watch a good play but he has a powerful army behind him. He means to seize power and Chancellor Li and Princess Wanning are his allies in the capital. I think the emperor and Duke Su know what he is up to and they allow Wanning to behave so boldly bc they are just playing weak and dumb. The emperor still needs an excuse/evidence to indict King Cheng. Otherwise he is doing his duty and protecting the kingdom at the border from a rival kingdom.

As for the princess, I think she was never married off to an enemy kingdom, she only was sent as a hostage princess. I don't know how she was able to return but I wouldn't be surprised if it was because Duke Su's father OR King Cheng secured a military victory and was able to trade a few cities for her return. I can't believe we are still stuck in silly cat fights in the capital when the more interesting story is what happened to Duke Su's father and how King Cheng may have been involved.

They still play it on the radio all the time in HK taxis.😅😂

Yeah I am not that interested in watching JOL in Canto bc unlike Jin Yong's stories it wasn't written in Canto. Kunning Palace is also Canto dubbed but it also wasn't that great in Canto.

Oh now I got to check that out!!! JOL was also dubbed into Canto but I watched the Mando version.

I mean in the story - I never saw what Wong Yung saw in Kwok Ching who was so goody and dummy at the same time. And I also didn't get why Yeung Hong was so into Muk Nimchi who just cried all the time. But yes also so tragic Barbara Yung picked such a dweeb in real life too.

Miu Kiu Wai (also cast by Jin Yong) was the perfect Yeung Hong. And Yeung Hong and Wong Yung are my favorite characters in the story. If they got together they would rule the world but both of them chose total patsies for their mates. I was hoping TVB would dub this 2024 version into Cantonese bc I prefer to watch Jin Yong in Canto. I found by accident they have a digitally enhanced version of the 1983 production. If this one bombs out, I may drop it and subscribe to watch that instead. Its available online on MyTVB.

It is a correct translation. And its certainly no more pretentious that Ode to Melancholy by Keats who also writes about the fleeting nature of beauty in a much more long winded and complicated way. Bc Chinese is a lot simpler as a language than English is without all the fussy pronouns and grammar rules. It is simple and beautiful in Chinese but in the translation into English it becomes pompous and pretentious . Whose problem is that???

I don't think its possible to ever beat the casting of the 1983 version bc Jin Yong personally cast all of the key roles and he said Barbara Yung is the Wong Yung he imagined. Chinese productions always cast someone way too intelligent to play Kwok Ching. I love Hu Ge to death but it was his worst role ever. I think Yang Xuwen is the only one who did an ok job with it. I like Ci Sha and I hope I am wrong but he is also not dumb dumb enough and would make a much better Yeung Hong.
The titles should be 铁血丹心, 东邪西毒, 南帝北丐, 九阴真经 and 华山论剑.

Well it’s not strict on a per episode basis as long as the whole thing is under 45mins x 40 episodes. And usually no one checks but this was complained about. But I think they are given time to fix the already aired episodes.

Yeah their arc ended already and does not need to be forcibly extended. This is what annoys me about YZ. He always plants the most boring filler arcs to promote his newbie actors.

Ep 25 is super boring. We really don't need to know more about the silly Jiang airheads love triangle with the sleazy Zhou Yanbang. Total filler arc.
