No no moustache. I think you are thinking of Yeung Hong's foster father the Jin prince. The two actors look quite similar. I have only seen Gao Weiguang playing good guy roles. I think GWG will play both young and old version of Ouyang Feng.

Ok I think at this point we really have to forgive the back stabbing of Bai Fengxi.

Its definitely gonna be interesting - Gao Weiguang may be a bit too good looking to play Ouyang Feng but I like to see him try playing a bad guy. And even though Zhou Yiwei is a terrific actor, its going to be very hard to beat Kenneth Tsang's diabolically handsome old devil of a Huang Yaoshi.

It is a full remake of the Legend of Condor Heroes broken into 5 chapters: 铁血丹心, 东邪西毒, 九阴真经, 南帝北丐 and 华山论剑. The 1983 version only split it into 3 chapters: 铁血丹心, 东邪西毒, and 华山论剑 but the content should be the same. In this version Huang Yaoshi is featured as the main character in his arc 东邪西毒 but that was always the case anyway. Its just marketing spin and a way to give Zhao Yiwei and Gao Weiguang top billing and also to get around the 40 episode limit.

Season 2 should be Return of the Condor Heroes. And Season 3 should be Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre. They are a trilogy of three linked stories but the main characters will all be different. Season 1 has 5 chapters and 60 episodes.

I am very sure it will be in cinemas here but I am not sure I want to watch it even though my friend is determined to drag me to it. As far as I am concerned, the story can end in 华山论剑.

I am looking forward to Win or Die but I feel scared at the same time bc Cao Dun storytelling can be long winded and boring. I had to abandon Hunter bc of this despite the amazing camerawork. He didn't really shoot Are You Safe. He just put his name on the project. It is totally not his camerawork.

Cao Dun is an amazing director by far the best in this series but he tells long winded and unfocused stories bc he wants to shoot certain scenes certain ways. Its smart to give him only 6 episodes and focus on the final fight scenes only. But I don't think Tencent is smart they just wanted to save money bc he is expensive! He shot some epic fight scenes between a lady assassin and the ML in Longest Day in Chang'an. I think he is a lot better than Tsui Hark but he should stick to movies only.

Yes it is 华山论剑 and it is normally the final chapter because the real ending is one no director has ever wanted to shoot and even Jin Yong himself only wrote about it in passing. But this summer Tsui Hark's movie The Great Hero will finally shoot the finale and I have a strong feeling it will hit the theaters in China after Duel on Mount Hua/华山论剑 airs.

The 1983 version of Condor Heroes is the most faithful adaptation of the novel, largely due to Jin Yong's heavy involvement. The 2017 version closely followed the 1983 version down to how many scenes were set up. I don't think anything substantive was left out from the novel. All of Jin Yong's characters are flawed and therein lies their appeal. I always have a soft spot for villains and characters with a dark side. So to me Wong Yung and Yeung Hong are always more interesting characters. Yeung Hong always made me sad because he was almost a hero and I never found him that bad a guy for loving his foster father more. He also was on the right side of history bc the Song dynasty's fall was inevitable. I don't dislike Guo Jing but I find his righteousness suffocating and it only got worse in Return of Condor Heroes. If you read the Anna Holmwood translation, it is very flat and does not capture the characters and the spirit of Jin Yong's work. Besides making unforgivable changes to the character names, she also really mucked it up by moving a lot of stuff around for unfathomable reasons. Maybe that is why you think the 1983 drama did not follow the novel closely? In general the TV dramas do a vastly superior job conveying the essence of the story than her translation does. I think John Minford to date is the best, most meticulous Jin Yong translator but sadly he only managed to get to two books, none of which include the Condor Heroes series.

Story wise its nothing much. But action wise it should be the pinnacle. And knowing Cao Dun that is probably perfect bc he sucks at storytelling but his camerawork is impeccable.
