I am at ep 26 on WoF but it hasn’t dragged yet. I think this one is harder and feels draggier for me bc I have to read subs bc of YM. I am also stuck on Blossoms Shanghai bc I have to read subs for the Shanghainese part there too.
Actually the Taiwan and HK drama industries were well established decades before China and many the top directors in China today are from HK or Taiwan. They have been casting older famous actors to play younger roles for ages in fact they prefer to do that bc they like actors who can actually act. The young idol actor phenomenon is a recent thing led mostly by China due to Korean idol culture influence. The Chinese govt strongly disapproves of that and has cracked down hard on it. We are seeing more good roles for so called old actors nowadays and this is going to be a trend going forward.
