I could be wrong but I think Part 2 is mostly about Xiu and Ning - the title is King of Light. They ended Part 1 mid-arc bc I think the other 2 bros are meant to die in that arc and they didn't want to kill them off in Part 1. The brotherhood part of the story is pretty much over unfortunately.

They won't have to do that. This was shot long before those regulations so the rules on episode length can be grandfathered. The bigger issue is apparently the drama distorts history as the ML was a real life hero. His death was super shady and I am guessing they handled that in a way the censors didn't like.

Tyvm. I think Ning will continue to be important enough to get a fair bit of airtime in S2, whenever it comes.

Yes I am also keen to see what's next for Ning bc there seems to be a tacit understanding between her and Xiu that their destinies lie in different directions...

Tyvm for your comments and for taking a deeper look at Ning. The writing in this drama is overall is quite smart, it is unfathomable they would waste that much time on a Ning that is utterly lacking in substance. A better portrayal should have highlighted her loneliness and fear tiptoeing around a sociopath like Canxing.

I actually don't mind re-watching it. Its quite opaque and there are so many layers to explore.

Its one of the great classics and I think it has been translated but its still an ancient classical novel, not easy to read. I am ok with everyday vernacular Chinese but I struggle with the classics and the use of archaic words and terms. I don't recommend checking out anything more than a heavily abridged version unless you really love that stuff. There are 8000 Chinese characters and 100k words but only about 2-3k characters and maybe 10-20k words are in common use. So most native speakers also struggle with the classics unless they are super high educated.

There's a lot more money on the harder path - once they hit movie level they can really get paid. But not easy.

Lol - I started watching it but put it on hold. I will finish it one day... Its a Chinese classic that flashes back bad memories of my Chinese lessons. I struggled with the classics. 😅🤣
The subs are very good which is critical to your viewing experience. Its a very sad story about a bunch of very sad and flawed people trapped by the social hierarchy of the time. All the now famous actors are in it - the young Yang Mi, Zhao Liying etc.

He is the director of Kunning Palace. MDL uses Chu Yui Bun for him, which is his official name in Cantonese as he is a HK director and how he prefers to be known. Zhu Rui Bin is how his name is written in Mandarin pinyin.

Idol actor route is just making mostly idol dramas - you know the usual romance , xianxias tropey stuff that usually sells on the main cast's physical appeal.. They are great for popularity etc but don;'t really add to an actors range.
