If they wanted a token woman should have just kept Qian alive instead of turning her into a monster. Sandrine Pinna has a low key personality and she is a very limited range actor. Asking her to play Yang Guifei is one thing but a feisty tomboy swashbuckling female pirate is just too far from her comfort zone.

Its so garbled - they couldn't figure out how to write the ending. What I gathered is the alien needs a very specific kind of human host, one capable of rational thought that does not devolve into a one-dimensional primitive beast. So I assume Siyu killed himself to escape the alien control and Shen Cong for some unexplained reason was able to expel it. Sijing agreed to stay with the alien in exchange for letting his friends go. But I assume after they were safe he killed himself so that the alien would not be able to exist in our world anymore. Alternatively he turned into the merman, which means the alien is still around and remains a threat if they can find another more easy to control host. It is also possible that the merman the girl is drawing is actually her crazy cult friend.

Or maybe HE is the merman.

It is just so so so bizarre bc Nazha is nowhere in the same league of this cast she doesn't even play in the same sandbox. I don't have anything against her either but she is still in that garden variety idol category of dramas I don't even think about watching .🤦🏻‍♀️ Whereas WKW makes serious dramas with real grown up actors. Not saying this is perfect bc I wasn't exactly blown away by the first few episodes but it is definitely still a high quality drama.

Well they speak God-awful Mandarin but... I am a huge Michelle Yeoh fan and the ML is a former colleague's son. I don't think it will be a huge hit but it is not a bad watch.
