All? How come I only have one episode per day??
Try refreshing your app? Maybe region restriction? If you have a VPN, set it to HK.

Not a fan of her acting at all - she is very pretty but the same in every role. But if you like her, she is in…
I was onto SP in DZ bc of her awkward acting - she gave herself away. Spoiled it for me.
TH was really good in Victim's Game.

Yes I think the villagers are caught in the middle. Some of them could be recent immigrants to the village including Shen Rang. He probably was sent from Ningyuan to build the fortress and settled in the village and married a village woman.

I think it is supposed to be Portuguese.
Baidu Baike's character description says she is Portuguese 葡萄牙女商人 using the modern word.

Chinese Wikipedia isn't reliable for Chinese historical and cultural information. It's run by Wikipedia but written in Chinese. Also, the Portuguese were actually the first to establish a presence in Luzon but unlike the Spanish, never colonised it. The Spanish were never active in China at that time whereas Angelica mentions frequent interactions with the Ming government. After looking at several Chinese dictionaries and other sources, 佛郎机 basically just means Westerner and was used to also refer to Franks and French. The Chinese at the time didn't differentiate but since the Portuguese were the earliest and most frequent Western power to have relations with China, most Chinese sources define 佛郎机 as Portuguese.

Xu Kai is a good actor that accepts roles indiscriminately unfortunately. I think I am gonna finally find time to watch Yanxi Palace this year, which I hear was his best role. He was also good in Court Lady.As for Sandrine Pinna, she was fine in Demon Cat bc she just had to look beautiful but Danger Zone was bad. I also had to drop Trinity of Shadows bc of her iffy acting there even though I really like Taiwanese crime thrillers. In this one her facial expressions are all over the place again it's only barely better than Lingjian Mt. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Taiwan has this odd obsession with Eurasian actors they literally cast one in every drama but at least the other one Tiffany Hsu is actually a decent actor.

Honestly I never had a good impression of Sandrine Pinna after that and I couldn't even watch Xu Kai for a long time.

In the final scene Qin Hao has a good haircut for once, to remind us that he is a handsome actor, not some tired middle aged dude. 😂

Yeah the fantasy elements mean they can be background history only.

If there are only two factions and they are able to develop an antidote (which seems half done) to the mutation then I think yes it will be all wrapped up.

This drama is set in Ningyuan in 1623 (third year of Tianqi) that I am guessing is a build up to the Battle of Ningyuan in 1626. This was an important Ming dynasty military stronghold that was key in holding off the Jurchens or the Later Jin dynasty. We are told that there was opposition at the court to the building of the fortress. So we can assume that Shen Rang and the Heihuan/(Black Ibis?) are defenders of the fortress.

The Henggong faction on the other hand are probably trying to halt the construction of the fortress. They may be remnants of the previous (Mongol?) dynasty or may be Jurchens colluding with the opposition voices (corrupt eunuchs?) at the court. So somehow both Eunuch Yang and likely even the Portuguese are colluding with them. I am just basing this on the fact that they both have dealings with He Zijiao. I now assume they are Portuguese because Angelica mentions they have had many interactions with the Ming court which fits Portugal whereas Spain had no dealings with China during this time. During Ming dynasty the Portuguese facilitated trade between China and Japan as direct trade with Japan was banned due to Japanese piracy on the Chinese coast.

You can see below many of the facts fit and Wumu island was likely Juehua Island where grain was stored.

Hey Happy New Year!!! Buenos Aires is gorgeous I went there a couple times but spent lots more time in Brazil so I knew it wasn't Brazilian Portuguese for sure. In Portugal the spoken Portuguese however is different. Many of my friends here are applying for Portugal's Golden Visa they have to take a Portuguese proficiency test. I tried to arrange for some of my Brazilian friends here to just practice conversation with them but apparently it's like a different dialect and is not advisable.

Came across a Chinese article that attributes most of the monsters from this drama to be from classics of Chinese mythology 山海经/Classics of Mountains and Seas and 神异经 / Classics of Gods and Spirits including the Black Ibis/黑鹮 (a bird-like monster), Heng Gong 横公 (a fish like monster) and 玄冥 Xuan Ming (God of Slaughter). I remember these books and some of the famous mythical creatures including Xuan Ming, Xiang Liu ( which was also in LYF) and Taotie but there are literally hundreds of them its impossible to know them all. Glad to see c-drama revisiting ancient classics.
