Well look at it this way - if VIU were in the US, the entire drama would not be on iQiyi, much less the Express. VIU paid a lot for it and VIU competes intensely with iQiyi in Asia - its a right they negotiated and paid for. iQiyi could have paid more and bought the China and international instead. They just didn't. Considering how much Linmon paid the actors for this, I can understand why they chose to sell it to the highest bidder.

The truth is iQiyi only bought China rights, they got the US gratis or for a nominal amount bc VIU didn't want to pay for it. It's a Linmon Pictures drama, it can happen again anytime iQiyi licenses a drama from an independent studio - the rights are sold by region. I hear VIU paid a lot more for the international rights than iQiyi was willing to. Obviously VIU would have a condition that stipulates no one else can air it internationally ahead of them bc then the episodes will leak onto illegal sites ahead of their airing schedule.

I was hoping I was wrong but my understanding was VIU actually owns all the international rights. iQiyi is only broadcasting in the US and a few other places bc VIU has no presence there. So the international airing schedule should be set by VIU and they are not expressing it. I have China iQiyi as well on my China mobile I can see all the express episodes are there already but I think I will wait to watch with everyone else bc I don't want to watch on the phone.
