I think it is wise of them to have him lie low for now. Its already quite huge this managed to air without cutting his scenes. Its probably too soon to have him leap to fame after his little stunt. I do feel bad for him but at the same time, he must have been well aware that the quid pro quo for fame is to be a role model for society.... He is still down for a main role in an iQiyi drana so hopefully all of it dies down and that proceeds.

Yeah I don't think you are alone in not being able to get into the story. I don't know why they glossed over the ZZ arc, it was such a critical motivator of her redemption journey. To dumb it down like that gives a feeling that not much happens for a large chunk of the narrative beyond petty back palace cat fights. I don't know why its so tabboo to give the FL a real choice. So to me this kind of failed as a reverse harem bc ZZ never got to make his case and YL was a foregone conclusion. There is only one real ML here and their love story doesn't even take off until the final innings.
To be fair, LYF has many more episodes but the storytelling is more balanced and every ML gets a fair shake at winning the girl. I did skim parts of the Kunning novel (but wow its long) and @CloudA's Youtube summaries also helped better flesh out the back stories for me. I watched them as I went along and found that quite helpful. I wouldn't have to do that with a really good adaptation and I didn't have to at all for LYF. As I commented before in the thread, I don't like this director's storytelling approach, his adaptations rarely do justice to the original works.
Well its a different genre but Lost You Forever has some very grey male characters in it.
I found the battle for the throne plots quite layered. The political plot is more complex. This one is ultimately quite simple with fewer parties involved.

Idk but those radio dramas are still really popular here. I listen to them in taxis or on the radio sometimes. There are lots of really good Canto voice actors.
