According to official records, there were 4 survivors of the fire - Lu Zhi, Chen Wang, Guard Zhang Gui and Chef You Er. We know that Chen Wang died afterwards. I suspect Butler Zhang is Guard Zhang Gui. The other fisherman could be Lu Zhi or Chef You Er. It is possible that Lu Jinxin and/or his son Lu Buyou also survived.

Episode 6 was the wackiest yet...in a good, funky kind of way. Can't wait to see how everything is connected.
The way they trapped Tarzan was hilarious!

Lol - it’s a bit early there are so many episodes to go that it’s probably wrong on most counts. Let’s see.

I suspect Lu Zhi is magistrate Wei (see above) and Mr Xie is his adopted father Lu Jinxin. They murdered Lu Yuanbao and took off with all his money.

I think Mr Xue is actually Lu Jinxin and butler Zhang is actually the guard Zhang that survived the fire.

Maybe Dr Cheng is just a kleptomaniac. Or maybe he scopes out people’s belongings as a doctor and then disguises himself as a monkey at night to steal them.

I also think that Dr Cheng helped Lu Jinxin poison his rich brother Lu Yuanbao 20 years ago. The fire was to cover up the fact that Lu Jinxin and possibly his family as well actually escaped instead of dying in it. Captain Leng, Lu Zhi and Chen Wang helped cover it up. They were bribed to keep silent. But Chen Wang started to spend the money and was killed 20 years ago. So Captain Leng never dared to touch the money. The murderer of the old case must be Mr Xie aka Lu Jinxin. Someone may have recognized his son Lu Buyao or his adopted son Lu Zhi who has come back to Du County. I suspect that person is Magistrate Wei bc Fortune Teller Xue recognized him in court but but bit his tongue. They went to Master Wang’s school together. That is also why Master Wang was killed - bc he would recognize his student. And maybe Captain Leng as well - he is the cat that Captain Leng is referring to. I suspect Magistrate Wei is Lu Zhi and he is more likely to have survived the fire than Lu Buyao.

Obviously there are holes in this theory but so far that is what i am working with.

Ep 6: Prescriptions:
It seems it’s a recipe for poison? Maybe by somehow combining both prescriptions? So Dr Cheng helped one of the Lu brothers murder the other? Is Dr Cheng also the monkey thief? I am just wondering bc he lifted a pear.

Yes, that is why I wonder the true nature of their relationship. We already know they were childhood sweethearts. How did he end up marrying someone else?

Indeed. I cover this industry so I have to try to understand where they are coming from but it's really not easy. Even the platforms can't always follow but they try to push the boundaries nonetheless.

Nope, that is not what I said at all. Unlike you, I made no statement of judgement either way. I am just simply explaining how the Chinese censors view the issue and why some content is not censored and why BL content is treated a bit differently. Unfortunately the censors don't really care what your or my views are so I didn't bother to express any.
It is also true that censorship used to be more tolerant when the genre seemed to only exist in the fringes. Once it threatened to become mainstream with all the big budget and super idol invovlement they cracked down hard and banned all BLs. To my knowledge its not a written ban so it may one day change but I don't think that day is anytime soon.

So, let me get this Straight...Mr Wang and Mr Tao are secretly...(how do I put this)...f^cking?!😁 And the homophobic…
Its fine bc it is just a heavily implied intimate relationship between two men. Those existed throughout Chinese history and comes up frequently in Chinese literary classics. Dream of Red Chambers contains many scenes of sexual encounters between men, often scholars who get drunk composing poems to each other. If it is not too overt and very subtle, it is tolerated, even accepted as it has been over thousands of years of Chinese history. Court Lady openly portrays the gay relationship between the greatest Tang emperor Tang Taizong,'s first crown prince and a male performer. The BL genre on the other hand is considered an unwelcome Japanese influence that appeals mostly to female audience. It is also controversial as large chunks of the gay community finds it to be offensive bc they are being fetish-sized by the genre.

Well we never see the Yamen notify the family, that happened off screen. They could have just told the daughter bc the mother is allegedly sick. Siniang may have given Sangeng the ingots to test his loyalty and honesty. I don't place high odds on it either but I just think its very odd the mom never appears and wonder if Siniang is living a double life.

I didn't know the moderators have to approve of episode guides. In any case the discussion thread works too. It'd just be a pity to lose it all after all the time it takes to summarize all the details.

Why has Captain Leng’s wife never appeared?
She’s not even in the cast list. Can it be that she is Siniang? I thought it was a bit odd she changed into mourning clothes when she was told Captain Leng died. It’s a strange thing to do unless he married her.

This looks like a lot of effort. You may also want to post this under the episode recap so that it doesn’t get lost in the thread.
