Yeah the ending twist was kind of predictable as was SDG being alive but I didn't really mind. As for LLH/LXY I think he is dead. It was actually foreshadowed in the name he chose for himself Lianhua 莲花 or lotus. It is the symbol of enlightenment or salvation in Buddhism. It means he is in the process of letting go of everything so that he can move on to the Buddhist lotus land or nirvana. He had a few chances to save himself throughout the story but he always declined. I didn't mention it earlier on when we were chatting about name puns because I didn't want to ruin everyone's fun but I already guessed how this would end very early on. I think in the beach scene both FDB and DFS imagined seeing him there since that is just where his possessions washed up onshore. If he were really standing there that dog would have jumped him right away instead of just standing wagging its tail from a distance.
